about the insurance thing, when he got the quote, he gave them all the details, they know he just got his P's, they know exactly what car hes got, so shouldnt they just tell him straight up, we cant insure you? what sort of stipulations are there on a typical contract as to what will void it? if it says they will cover him driving that car, how can they take his money, then only tell him they cant cover him after an accident?

and btw, COULDNT GET PICS, PLACE AINT OPEN WEEKENDS!!!!

im on my p's and i can insure a ferrari if i have the money...doesnt mean i'm allowed to drive it...

thats not to say they wont pay out...plenty of people have been paid out while breaking that law...but its a risk you take.

Nah man im sorry to tell you but insurance companies do just that. They take your money no matter what, they tell you over the phone "yes you'll be fine, just as long as you stick to the guidelines".. funny thing is the guidelines are like XX pages long and people rarely read them.

Just call up Just Cars if you want an example of this. You're allowed unlimited legal modifications. Now what does legal mean? Well Just Cars cant tell you that, go ahead, ask them over the phone, they will tell you they arent allowed to tell you whats legal and whats not, thats up to you to find out. Yet they let you list your Boost controller, Air Fuel computer etc - all of which are illegal to have on your car. In the event you have an accident, they can simply say you fitted illegal parts to your car, which voids your insurance coverage.

Plain and simple - if Anjoo shouldnt be driving the vehicle in that state, and the insurance guy thats assigned to his case is a smart cookie, it may very well turn out that mummy and daddy will have to fork out another 30k for a new car, coz the insurance company wont do shit.

It's an insurance companies job to find reasons to not payout. Thats why they have multi-million dollar profits.

mostly accurate..

however, i've read the PDS, and they state that if the illegal modification is proven to be the cause of the accident, then they wont cover it...

also, they let you list stuff like that because its covered in the even of theft...its not all about paying out in the event of an accident....thats also the same reason they'd let me insure a ferrari...i'm allowed to own it, just not allowed to drive it...so if it got stolen from my driveway, they have no choice but to pay out.

No-one said insurance companies are fair, they're about run one rung below casinos on the ladder of 'people who financially f**k you'. But the fact is, i doubt they'll cough up if you have your accident whilst breaking the law - and driving a banned car is just that, even though a lot do it.

Its not up to an Insurance company to tell you whats legal and not, thats for you to find out. If its not legal at the time of a claim, and that illegal doing is the direct cause of the claim, then the insurer does have rights to decline the claim. So if your an 18yo driving a turbo import Skyline when, due to licence restrictions you shouldnt be, then pray to God you dont make a claim where driving an overpowered vehicle is the cause as you may not be paid out.

Have a boost controller or Fuel controller or even a high mount T88 turbo listed on your policy is fine as long as when you claim, that illegal mod is not the direct cause of the claim, then you are generally paid out at the insurers discretion.

yeah ive heard that from a few places. I dont understand it though.. Like if you have a bigger turbo or boost controller why wouldnt they just turn around and say well the increased power caused the crash ??

Hey Man...I feel for you.

I just would like to know and maybe understand.

Is there a distaste for cars from Japan in Australia.

Is this against the car or the person in the car.

Second.......SUE HIM.......AND THEN TAKE OUT AN AD IN THE LOCAL NEWSPAPER...INDICAING HE'S A RACIST WHO LOST THE TRAIL..

Oh don't forget to put his picture in the ad too....LOL

Why is it when i asked Just Cars when i was on the phone last time they were not allowed to tell me what was legal and what wasnt. And why have others stated they've been given the same treatment?

Exactly as justin911 says, if you have illegal power increasing mods, and you were speeding when you had an accident, why couldnt they claim these mods were the cause and attributed to the accident. I'm no lawyer but that would seem pretty straight forward to me.

where are the photos? or even better, a copy of the police report.

cmon anjo, prove to us your not a liar.

ill second that julion seems like someone has bitten off more than he can chew if he is having trouble proving it :P

b00sted is right though... heaps of ppl have had accidents with pfc's, ebcs and crap and they get paid out...

i just dont understand it..

i rang up just cars once and i go "isnt it a scam insuring p platers in vic" the woman just laughed and goes

"err umm err well we cover you nationaly.. so if your driving in a state where its legal to drive your still covered"

well as i said there would need to be sufficient proof that you were speeding, or that high speed was the direct cause for the accident. For Example, if you simply pulled out of a T junction in front of someone and got T-boned and you had a built RB26 with twin high mounts, PFC etc etc etc, clearly it was not the mods to blame, but simply driver error so you would most likely get paid out (pending the insurers descretion).

However, if for example you had pulled out in front out someone but had several gauges on the dash or a-pillar that were obstructing your vision and this could be proved, then your claim may be declined.

End of the day, some insurers are far more lenient than others on issues like mods so its a matter of find the right one.

Its not an insurers job to tell you what mods are legal and what mods arent. If you want to know what is, go to your dept or transport and they will tell you. An Insurance company will insure your vehicle in the event of a claim, they do not act as representitives of the government and its rules and regulations.

You cant just 'claim' that illegal mods were the cause, my understanding is that there needs to be sufficient proof of this before a claim could be denied.

I know that I my claim paid out on my car which was too low, had limo tint and bald tyres and there were no questions asked as none of these were contributing factors.

I WANT PICS!!! I didn't just read 8 pages of pointless banter for nothing!!!

I'd like to give this guy the benefit of the doubt. Dandenong is notourious for these kinds of incidents. I mean, it seem ridiculous to have a guy who is driving a reasonably expensive car willingly crash it for a bit of road rage however, stranger things in dandy have happenend and there are many people pinging off what ever drugs they are on to do some bs like this.

    • If you've only done the upper control arms on the rear, AND you have changed their length (by more than about 1mm) to set the camber you want, then you will definitely need/want to install traction arms also. Adjusting the camber arms on their own WILL introduce bump steer and make the car unpleasant to drive. Most owners have no idea that their car could behave infinitely better than what they put up with. I'm not entirely sure what the Stageas need, but I am thinking that unless you have massive front spring rates and pretty soft rear springs, you have waaaay too much rear bar. Oversteer city, in my estimation. Combined with possible excessive bump steer from maladjusted arms, that could be a recipe for nastiness. ATR43SS2 is not a highflow. It is an outright replacement turbo. It's a little bit bigger than the largest highflow profile that Tao does. Probably a solid 300rwkW turbo where the bigger highflows will be about 30-40rwkW less. Nevertheless, we're only talking about ~300 rwkW, which is well within the abilities of the stock ECu to run with a Nistune on board. I would do so without hesitation - and I will be doing so when I get my finger out and actually get the injectors and AFM installed. But, if you would prefer to drop a whole lot more money on the ECU side, then I suspect you're looking at Haltech. The Haltech fanbois here will all spout on about all the available engine protection you can have, that you can't have with the Nistune option. And they're right. But it doesn't really come for free either. You will spend more money on extra sensors and the like, plus the work to install them. If the engine was built and therefore represented a big investment to protect, then I'd say definitely do it. If you view the current (and forever into the future) shortage of replacement engines as something to prompt similar protection, then also, do it. If you see a destroyed RB25 as an opportunity to put in a Mercedes or other V12 (like I kinda do)... then your perception of the risk/reward might differ. These are good injectors. You can also get a "better" set of the same with more flow matching, for more $$. 1000cc is where you will want to be. You will need an R35 AFM and adapter tube if you want to stay with Nistuned stock ECU. Otherwise, if going Haltech, you can ignore. As for intercooler. Just about anything will do. You're only talking about ~300rwkW. Just put a big core in there. Be aware that return flows do add significant pressure drop and will cost power and will make the turbo work harder to achieve the same goals. If you can manage a proper crossflow, do it. I'm keeping my very good return flow because I'm only expecting to be in the ~250rwkW range, and will live with whatever outcome I get.
    • I have a heap that i have collected if you want some authentic ones still. Pm me if your interested!
    • Hey lads, reviving an old thread.  As an update, since the last time replied to this thread, ive done mostly suspension. Havent touched the motor except for maintenance. Though upon changing spark plugs, found out i had splitfires pre-installed! Updates: - Got me some stock airbox top cover and snorkel to fit onto the original intake. Should be free of defects - Bought a set of R34 GT-T brakes (not installed yet, going to rebuild + respray in champion blue + white 'Nissan' text) - Bought the last set of bilsteins from @Sydneykid and had them installed. Has been making some sounds on the rear but hopefully should be sorted out after this New Year break. - Regreased front caster rod bushings (poly bushes..) - Rear upper camber arms - Whiteline sway bars (BNF27Z 22mm + BNR11XXZ 24mm).  The rear sway bars are a bit short (ive read 50mm else where) but was still able to get them in.  Anyhows, I reckon suspension is sorted now. Maybe replace bushes (do have a set of front upper control arms from SK not installed yet) but should be okay for now. From now, I'm wanting to start working on the motor, drivetrain etc etc. Still debating on the order to go on and what to buy etc but: - ECU ( Haltech or Link ( Link states that it dont support A/T or AWD functions... Can anyone attest to this? ) - Highflow turbo ( ATR43ss2 ) - Intercooler ( Not decided yet, but cant find many good afoordable ones. Toshi says to opt for crossflow Japanese. Bit difficult this one, unless I get a returnflow Blitz from JJ? ) - Injectors ( Any recommendations ? I do have a nismo FPR ( Thanks SK ) ) - Seats - Tune by either Toshi or DVS To be fair, I did consider just keeping the stock turbo and nistuning it. Sat in a mates stock N, that had something like 200kw, and I reckon that felt more than enough. Maybe I should just go this route ahhaha. Too many choices.... Planning a trip down south, so wanting to just clean things up and make sure it gets to and from in one piece. Anything else specifically I should do before ? Cheers lads
    • Must be for the car’s lucky charm 🤷🏽‍♂️ She runs fine, but it just seems to take about 1L less. Maybe I’ll have the oil sump dropped at some point to check if there is anything
