hey guys,

i found out today that i have a 95 r33 rb26 in my 89 r32gtr, and was wondering would that cause any issues in the way it ran?

will a r32 gtr ecu and afm work properly with a 33 rb26?

are any of the other sensors differant? e.g oxygen, knock etc??

she seems to be running fine at the moment, the idle is good and runs pretty well (for a stock engine)

thanks

Steve

Hmm I'd say it's only the basic engine (ie block & head) that's been changed mate.

Most of the electronics on the R33's I think you'll find were upgraded. Critical things like fuel injectors & stuff are completely different too. R32's use low impedance (only a couple ohms when measured by multimeter) Top-feed injectors with ballast resistors, where as the R33 I believe has side/body feed injectors just like R33 GTS-T's & are more like 12.5 ohms & I think have slightly different flow rates. Also the engine management system is not likely to be anything near the same.

All the surrounding components of the engine can easily be removed from 1 engine & then placed on another & I'd say that's what's happend with your car, unless they've upgraded everything else too, which would be a big job.

Mechanically I don't think they're a lot different if at all.

ummm, youll find only the gts/t's came in side feed, and the gtrs all came in top feed.

as far as i know the r33rb26 and the r32rb26 engines look exactly the same. and the all the sensors are in the exact same spots, the injectors also have the same resistor pack, which means the injectors are the same impedance.

i just dont know if the afms, knock sensors and oxygen sensors have the same paramaters, thus needing the ecu they were made for.

A point to consider, R32 and R33 GTR PFCs are the same. The O2 sensors are a different (smaller) size, otherwise you are fine.

Electro, if you are going to post technical info make sure it is correct, or clarify that you haven't bothered to check. You are almost entirely wrong and while someone would be crazy to take the word of one individual on the web there are folks who could be disadvantaged considerably.

so the r33 ones are smaller in size? dam it, this past week ive been searching for new r32 rb26 oxy sensors!!

so i guess ill have to start my search over again.

I suppose what ill do is take them out and see if they are the 32 or 33 sensors.

thanks

32's have the smaller O2s Steve, well the smaller thread diameter. Something like 12mm but I'm not 100% on that.

Unfortunately I don't have a GTR32 in the garage to check but take some dims of the sensor thread and body size and I can compare to mine.

the only difference is the size of the thread where the o2 sensor bolts into the dump pipes. they both send the same signal to the ECU. I'm 99% sure the threads are 15mm and 18mm but not certain

Everything else is interchangeable.

*edit* I mean externally, there are apparently some internal differeences other than just the crank collar
