Adjustable Cam Gears

Hello,

I have one of those HKS duralim cam gears ready to go into my car, i have seen on the forums that most people have these set to 3 degrees retard and say that gets the best results is this a common occurance or is it different for every car? What i am basically asking is do i need to dyno tune to check it is going to improve mid-range and the like, or can i set it at 3 degrees retard and know that it will work?

thanks for the reply dont have a good dyno operator down here, so will wait to head to can or syd and get other work done at the same time.
