this has really got me puzzled...

we went to start the car today after my rebuild when #1 wasnt firing. it wasnt showing compression and there seems to be no compression leak through the rings, or through the head..

my only option now is to run the car and hope the lifters bleed themselves properly as its up on ramps now. then get a leak down test.

if anyone has any idea what it could be PLEASE let me know.. we installed new rings, head gasket and got the head machined.

sounds a lot like a rooted/unbled lifter to me. if you're keen you could whip the cams out and pull the 4 lifters involved, clean them and put them back in. or just run it and hope they bleed themselves. it won't damage anything really if you do it the easy way.

i'll give that a go tomorrow mate. thanks for that.

You can borrow 4 spare lifters that i have from a spare head for a TEST if you like. As long as you promise to give them back when your finished (same ones) :P

pm me if you need em - only thing is they are in Newcastle but this could help - thought i would offer.

Pull them back out and let them soak in tub of light engine oil overnight. might take half an hour to bleed up at 1500 rpm after instalation. i get this all the time when doing engines. dont stress to much.

just in a box.. i blew them out thoroughly before installing them though.

Are all the springs in? If you are going to clean the lifters you have to bleed them before instalation, if you are not going to clean them you put them in and oil can upright .

Is compression zero in number 1? Whats the compression on the other cylinders? Was is making a racket when you first started it? is it quiet now ?

So you pulled the valves out and relapped them , correct?

Did you bend a valve ? Did you put the valves back in the same spot as they were before? You have to tell us a lot more detail if you want a possible sollution .

You are not having much luck there Joe, is this number 3 rebuilt atempt?

By the way i dont think your problem is a lifter.
