Who cares what series it is run under? It is the biggest sport compact event in Australia and if a dedicated racer like yourself doesn't want to compete how are we supposed to convince new racers?

Personally, I can't wait to race in a class that will accept me! :D New weight/record setting rules FTW!!!

Settle down, champ. After the many long hours i've dedicated both directly and indirectly to this sport, specifically sport compact drag racing, who are you to place the responsibility of keeping the sport alive squarley on my shoulders?

I've worked my arse off trying to get as many people to compete in ANDRA's AS WELL AS Ray's events over the years on top of continually trying to get new people to the track and helping them out where I could once they got there to race. Don't you think it would have been easier to do what most everyone else does and just race myself? Letting 'someone else' look after the future of OUR sport?

I get probably a dozen pm's and emails a week asking for tips on racing, advice on car setup and help at the track and I try to respond to all of them. I go out of my way to help people who have contacted me, (some who I'll probably never meet) and don't ask anything in return - just that they give it a go and if they happen to like it, to come back and bring their mates.

Don't come on here and question my resolve to keep sport compact drag racing alive in this country. All I said was that I had different goals. I don't see the sense in spreading an arguably small group of racers even thinner with what is, without debate, a RIVAL series to ANDRA's Sport Compact championship. I don't see the sport growing by dividing the series and the racers in two.

Lets make a quick comparison. The Nostalgia guys have their own series, totally seperate from ANDRA with their own set of rules, a series you must buy into in order to receive prize money and tracks the country over that are happy to host their events. I say, "Good for them." S/ST and SS/xx classes are well established and very well subscribed at ALL meetings. It makes sense to have a niche series for a small group of racers with vehicles over 30 years old. These cars aren't gonna be around forever and it's a place to get a bunch of like minded racers together to re-live the golden age of muscle cars and hot rods.

We're not like that.

Our cars will be around for a lot longer than some of these dinosaurs for the simple reason that technology pushes our racing. Technology wont stop tomorrow and neither will we. I'll probably always drag race. I love it. I live and breathe it every day at work and at home. It's a shame that for financial reasons alone, (please don't tell me it was a "for the good of the sport" decision 'cos it wasn't) that Sport Compact racers have been divided, confused and dissasociated from ANDRA competition in one fell swoop.

We HAD parity with traditional ANDRA racers.

We HAD recognition by our peers.

We HAD the opportunity to make-good MANY people's commitment to a follow-up national series.

We HAD literally HUNDREDS of racers happy to be part of something in its FIRST YEAR, not knowing if it was a good idea or a bad one.

How many of these things do we have now?

We're still struggling (and probably always will be) for equal recognition of our sports' achievments with the V8-Brigade. This will never ever happen without a single focus on a series operated by the governing body motivated by nothing more than the future sucess of the sport. The awards dinner was a simple, if inconsiderate, oversight that I'm assured will include the presentation of ANDRA Sport Compact awards next year.

A lot of the problem is ANDRA. I'm not 'their boy' as has been suggested, that gets sent into bat for them in situations like this one. I have disagreed to the point of face-to-face, stand-up arguments with them but the simple fact of the matter is this: ANDRA's biggest concern is/should be the continuation of the sport of drag racing at all levels and the safety and sucess of the racers, crew and spectators involved. NOT the money made by promoters with the self-serving goal of the mighty dollar.

A lot of people need to get their shit together if sport compact racing is to continue for either organisation. SCP or ANDRA. Nothing is going to magically happen and the future of the sport isn't somehow guaranteed. This process should start by people who call themselves true drag racers taking a step back and thinking about where certain individuals interests lie.

I wasn't attacking you directly and I apologise if it sounded that way.

I understand that you are helping people out and trying to make the SC scene better and I feel that I do the same.

Well the only way that is going to change is if more people get off their asses and race. The only difference is that the rotary boys are pretty serious about their racing and it seems that most 4/6 cylinder people are more interested in checking out chicks than getting out there and racing. That is pretty sad seeing as this is the biggest 4,6 and rotary event in the southern hemisphere.

From another website. This was a bit aggrevated though but only because the fella was being a bit of a dick.

I agree that SC needs to be unified. I don't care who is making money from it as long as there is a good championship to race in that has fair rules.

As I said, the ANDRA rules were based off the US and I don't think there were many changes to adopt them to the Australian SC scene. I believe that the SCP rules have gone a step closer to doing this but we won't know how close until some racing has happened and people can then see what, if anything needs amending.

Once again, I apologise if it sounded like I was attacking you. I know that you love your drag racing (as do I) and I just can't see how the politics of the situation could stop someone who loves it that much from competing.

Thanks for the reply, Chris. Here's the main problem:

The people that criticise ANDRA and the SC Rules are the same people that refuse to put a rule submission in. These are again the SAME people that have heralded Ray's series as fixing all the problems with SC Racing.

The rules aren't THAT different and the changes that HAVE been made were NEVER submitted as a rule proposal to ANDRA. As a member of the NSW SC Panel, I got to see EVERY rule submission that came in last year. Not one body style submission came in. What does that tell you?

Can you see where the frustration comes from? Whingers that aren't willing to go about changing the sport from the inside but are happiest sitting on the sidelines throwing stones.

Hi everyone,

When I put in the info on for this years Jamboree, I hadn't actually read all the preceeding pages.

With much amusement I now have read the vast amounts of mis-information on these pages.

As you will be aware the NEW web site took a lot longer than we had anticipated, but we hope the wait was worth it as the new site is a vast improvement. ( www.sportcompact.net.au ). All the guess work can now be taken away with the rules (free download), dates of events, membership for contingency payouts, program information for J16.

Contingency you may ask.... money that can be earnt for your efforts in building and maintaining your car by supporting the sponsors of the series.

Yes a SERIES[/u].... 5 rounds with points gained to an end of series payout at this stage 9 product lines.

The event is pre-entry only. For Race, Show, sound-off etc. If you wish take advantage of the online entry option please click on!

If you have any queries you are not sure about, please contact us for confirmation at [email protected] .

Please remember, no matter what the event or topic maybe, contact the event, the organisers, the workshop, supplier etc. before letting the key board racers spread ill-informed gossip.

Regards

SCG

Its clear that those people who think willowbank has crap facilities have not raced in New Zealand. Speaking of NZ, I expect 7.50s from Reece McGregors heat treatments skyline. Isn't that enough for most dyed in the wool skyline fans to look forward to ?

I will be strapping a set of radials on my car and a hood lining and running SRWD.

We spent a bit of time with one of the NZ contingent last year. had a good laugh over a few beers on Saturday night, told us alot about racing at home. agree that WB might be a step up from NZ, but seriously, WB is behind most tracks in the country facility wise, nothing wrong with the track surface as it is arguably the best in the country. Nothing a few toilet blocks, taps & power points couldnt fix. Makes it hard when you have to lug so much gear up there.

i seen you were entered in S/RWD thats awesome Ben. theres going to be some good racing in the class.

have you run on radials before?

thanks

I'll just borrow a set of 255/50/R16s and see how they go. Haven't run radials at the drags for a while, but used them on the street in NZ. I expect to have to kill the launch a bit, but thats fine as it was dragging its bumper on the ground last time out.

lol thats a bugger.

i love seeing the old gazelle up on the rear wheels.

or are you entering in 2 classes Ben?

And to watch Reece run a 7.6 will be the hightlight for me, next to seeing GAS hopefully run a 6 and beat PAC.

YAY!! i can race, ill see u all there, PS car picked up ~130hp on methanol.... should make it very interesting.... Only problem is i suspect a cracked head.. Hopefully some Alum Weld or similar and a huge catch can will see it survive the nationals and Jambo.. if not its going out with a bang..

Hey adrian, we've got 3 cars going aswell... should see if we can all setup together..?

    • On R32s etc the variable resistor of the TPS is pretty much only for the auto trans CU. The switch is the idle position. Yes, later ones want to see pretty close to 0.45V to declare idle position.
    • TPS sensor needs to be adjusted such that idle voltage is 0.45V, then relearn the TPS if applicable. From what I recall in the R32 GTST and similar ECUs they care far, far more about the actual TPS closed switch but later models seem to only keep track of voltage.
    • What can't be done with a little bit of decking board or similar timber bolted to a hub flange via 2 wheel nuts is not worth talking about.
    • I noticed something. On the tps sensor and the sensor behind the adjustment screw is adjusted towards the far left. Are these screws supposed to be centered? (this sensor was in the same position before the tune as well)  Also attached a photo of where my car usually idles at when warm (sometimes a tiny bit above that). I think I might have screwed up the calculation and it might have better than I thought lol at 750rpm still not 650rpm though.
    • So for both general interest of engine health, and to rule out any coolant/oil issues, I organised an oil analysis done on the 125,000klm oil Results below, all good, just a bit of fuel dilution which I'm not too worried about
