Hey All,

Just wondering what dump pipes and front pipes you all have?

As some of you know i just got my stagea on sunday, it already has a fujitsubo cat back system but i want a stainless dump and front pipe. But im not sure if R33 Skyline dumps and fronts fit without modification.

Or am i better off getting a custom dump and front made through an exhaust shop over an off the shelf item.

Thanks for all the responses in advance

Simon

I am currently modifying mine and adding a split front/dump pipe all the way back to the new magic cat. And as the turbo housing needs to be modified as well to make the split wastegate effective, I used my mates which he had already moded - it was a from an R33 and bolted straight on. The turbo needs to be completely removed to do this.

From what I have read on other threads, unless the split is a couple of feet in length it is a 'waste' of time (no pun intended). However the first foot of the dump pipe is the hardest to manufacture (if you're doing it on your own) so buying an off the shelf item and then chopping off the back end and extending it further along to the cat can be as easier way to go.

My costs so far:

Moded turbo housing - free

Turbo flange with split wastegate - $35

Magic Cat $300

3 inch 2 bolt flange - $15

Mild steel 3 inch pipe - free

1.25 inch wastgate pipe, pre bent from exhaust shop - $35

O2 sensor nut - free, you need 18mm ID X 1.25mm thread

An off the shelf split dump pipe is going to cost $150-200 then you still need to cut and extend it (unless you get one that is already the right length) Plus you'll need a larger cat or you're wasting your time by leaving a hefty flow restriction in the system. IMO stainless is just for show unless you're keeping the car for more then ten years. Or unless you intend to heat wrap the dumps.

BATMBL is the man, stainless or mild steel. Send him a PM, he has them in stock. BTW $300 for the Magic 4" cat was a lot, they were $210 on the Group Buy.

Tip, when looking for stuff try the Group Buy section first, good prices and always plenty of reports back from other SAU guys.

 cheers :)

I'm running a split dump made up to suit r33's from Advan. is stainless steel, cost me $350,and needed a 1/2" thick spacer to mate up to the cat properly,as it's shorter than the std dump.

:D cheers :D

I agree and I told/ask them about matching the group buy and they wouldnt be in it.

Usual deal...wanted it in a hurry to complete the job, so I paid up, then didnt finish it before the skidpan day so now the car has a modified turbo housing connected to the std front/dump - sounds like its passing wind all the time.

hhhmmm all too hard.....

this is what I bought:

a BATMBL 3inch hiflow cat converter, bolted that on to mate onto the 3inch cat-back exhaust system that was already on the car.

then I went off to ebay, and bought, for roughly $220 delivered, a Just Jap stainless steel 3inch dump pipe (from turbo to catconverter). easy, for an R33 gtst, no hassles, installed by mechanics when I had other stuff tuned. Mind you, thinking about it, Im sure they machined down the edge that mates to the turbo, and added a spot weld and threw in a gasket - like under $100 to install it. Quality was good, not 100% perfect, but definately useable and a good price I thought. Does the job!

Anyway, that makes it cheap and easy. why pay $300 more for a split system??? I dont get it, unless you are chasing maximum HP

My thinking,

The split flows better with reduces turbulence generated by the 2 outlets when the waste gate is opened, this would be a benefit on a standard engine/turbo/boost set up the same as it would be on a modified set up. You wouldn't say "I want 150 awkw" and stick with a standard exhaust system, winding up the boost and supporting mods until you got to that power level, so why not use a split dump/front that flows better than a single front pipe?

Just my angle, I don't think you would go from what you have to a split now Brendan but maybe from standard this is a better option?

Interested to know why it doesn't fit the High Flow, has to have something to do with the exhaust housing being machined and the pipe no longer matching that size I guess...

Chasing maximum benefit!

Cheers

Luke

Be careful with the SS front/dump pipe, it will only suit a standard turbo, not a highflowed one, i came across that problem.

Could you please explain? i've just gotten myself a hi-flo, and i thought they used the exact same turbo housing as the standard turbo. why would this mean any standard dump pipe wouldn't work? i've got a custom mild steel dump, nothing flash but i just don't want to have to fork out for mods to my exhaust if this turbo is different

    • A locally delivered Infiniti have remote start installed but don't come with the remote start key. You need a new remote start key and they just need it programed. And this is different to making/programing a new key that just starts the car.
    • Cheers, and cheers for sharing so much of the build and also sharing the glimpse of what turns out to bring a lot of us poor decision makers together haha.  I do recommend learning more about how to manage it, if not considering getting a  formal diagnosis.  The discussion with the psychiatrist I got my diagnosis through was quite eye opening, things I'd not even considered to be ADHD related and hadn't mentioned were things she asked about out of the blue and were common themes with people with my flavour of ADHD.   It's not a label for people who are hyperactive and ill-attentive, there's more to it than that and some of it can be much more challenging or damaging - though there are of course two sides to the thing, and a lot of the stuff we have to go through and work on to live with it make us effectively "better" at other things as well. Aside from the fact that there is some argument I could have a bit of ASD seasoning in there (came up during the diagnosis, and neurodiverse things seem to not stay as a cookie cut) I suspect you need to learn more about ADHD if you are puzzled about how hyperfocus could possibly apply.  I *do* personally use "superpower" with quotes deliberately, but it's 100% an ADHD thing due to the exact reason that lack of focus is also an ADHD thing... Loosely speaking the inattentive side of ADHD isn't the inability to focus, it's the inability to control where the focus goes.  Not being able to sleep because brain is more interested in thinking about a stupid thing I said to a girl I liked 30 years ago, not being able to focus on work because my brain is more keen on putting together the torque management strategy we're going to try out with a drag car next weekend, not being able to focus on a conversation with someone I WANT to listen to and respect because there is a flickering light in my peripheral vision.    If I could just stop work and build the torque management setup right there and then I'd not hear anything else until it was done.
    • Maybe you should do some more reading.  Google positive effects of ADHD and you'll get your answers.  One of my personal downsides of ADHD has been talking before I think.   Maybe you have it too?
    • Excuse me for butting in....but which part of ADHD can be considered a superpower? I would have though it far more likely that some ASD comorbidity is more likely to be contributing to an ability to hyperfocus on something. ADHD being aimed somewhat in the other direction. My shed looks like your shed. My whiteboard list of unfinished projects has entries going back 15 years. I know what you're talking about - I just struggle to connect ADHD to the results being discussed.
    • Thanks for reaching out!  It's a blessing and a curse at the same time.  I'm undiagnosed but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see it in me... I have more half started projects laying around my house, shed, garden, etc taking up space and money, destroying aesthetics than if I added up all of my mates projects together. But, ADHD gives me the ability to hyper focus on things that no mere mortal could even  comprehend.  A recent pool build is an example of that....  I dont know anyone else that would be dumb enough and focused enough to take on then complete something of that magnitude. I call ADHD a superpower but it can equally be completely destructive if not controlled and focusedon the right places. Addiction is a major concern to ADHD people and thankfully my addictions have been no worse than projects, XBOX, chocolate and being an arsehole! It's often hereditary and my 13 year old son is currently learning how to drive it at the moment. Keep lurking! If i can finally finish this bloody thing at some point it will be a win for all of us ADHD'ers! 🤪
