hey guys, i brought a r33 not too long ago - but i have noticed the ride is very uncomfortable, i can feel very small holes etc.. on the road and speed humps are really bad, i have to slow down to 15-20kmph and even then its bad. I know the car has been lowered, it sits about ~160-170mm from the lowest part of the car. What i want to know is how to improve it? or are the shocks stuffed and i need to replace them? or even if the ones i got are adjustable

As a start you need to find out what springs your car has been fitted with. They aren't stock, obviously. Many Japanese spring/shock packages run stupidly high spring rates.

As a general guide a Skyline with stock suspension should ride reasonably well.

damn... so all ur guys skylines bumpy/uncomfortable rides?

The standard suspension in R33 is reasonably comfortable, if you have sports suspension

like tien the ride can be quiet rough.

Firm Suspension = excellent handling = rought ride

Soft Suspension = average handling = more comfortable ride

Maybe consider Pedders sports/comfort inserts using original strut tops

they should offer a reasonable ride and will firm up when pushing around corners.

most tien etc. has metal strut tops, the original r33's tops are rubber

and offer a little more give and less noise.

Hope this helps ;)

Also Japanese suspension is designed for billiard table smooth roads,

unfortunately we don't have them here in Ozland.

Well you can, but it takes a little bit of work...

Have a look in the stickies section at the top as there is a post from Gary about how to work it all out. It will tell you what measurements to take of what bits of the springs.

Second thing to do is to find out what brand gear you have. Then someone can help you track down what rates are available from that brand.

Match the measured up with the catalogue & bingo, you ave an answer.

Have a look in the groupbuy section for your particular car for the Whiteline gear. It is good stuff & will give you an indication of what to expect in terms of costing.

Oh, in my humble opinion Pedders suck dogs bollocks, so don't go there.

Dude the shocks appear to be KYB AGX Adjustable. Are they set on soft (1)? if not they will ride very firm if they are set on hard. (have them in wife's fairlane). they are easy to adjust. ajust them and see if it softens off. If it does not, then its all in the spring rates. Find another spring softer (lovells, kings etc). pretty much most aussie made springs be softer then jap spec stuff.

Regards

    • I once hit my knee on an exhaust on my sisters Suzuki Sierra after she drove it her *normal* way. My knee looked like porridge for weeks. Bec and my daughters never go near this car. I can see one of my dogs losing an ear though. 🤔
    • Nice, love a good GTS-t.  IMHO the factory body kit with the 'aero' front bumper is perfect. Can't improve on it unless it's a GT-R. But it looks like you changed it to the normal bumper?
    • Easy solution to both of those. Put a split bit of garden hose on each one. Attractive and practical!
    • So I guess the next thing to do will be to discuss whether to create a new section of the forums to hold the library (boo hiss?), somewhat undoing the recent tidy up, or if there is a bolt on wiki module for Invision? (I must profess ignorance as to what has been done, what it might cost, etc. I have only briefly googled and seen discussion on adding it.) Or is a wiki even the best way to do what I'm talking about? It possibly isn't. Given that we're trying to re-display forum content, it probably needs to be presented as forum content in forum format, and a wiki would probably struggle with that. A wiki might still be the best way to do some other things, so I'll keep the idea simmering if we don't use it here. Back to the library as "part of the forums". Would we do a single new library? Or put a library thread in each section? Pluses and minuses for each of these, surely. Would we do as I originally suggested, and make the first post in the library be the total of the library, with any reply posts just being the inputs and suggestions I originally posited? Or would we allow posts to accumulate one after the other, each containing additions to the library? Maybe the first post is still an index or something. It's all sounding horribly more manual and messy than my original brain fart. But I hope there's some other good ideas floating around - because every time I come up with a new one of my own I immediately see problems with it.
