MANWHOR3, thats how I understood it, so considering the housing itself is considerably larger and will bolt up. The machining they'll need to do wont be any different than they'd do on a VG30 or a stock R33 housing.

If thats the case it should be usable.

If they use exactly the same housings which it seems they like to do then they would have laithe settings set specifically to do the job on that particular housing.

This is possibly why they turned down the housing.

They do differ a bit between housings having used different sized turbines.

There are size limits but it is the same process.

Just more effort with the machining.

A bit of an update...

I took the turbo and housing into GCG the other day, they agreed it was larger than my original and they would try to fit it.

I heard back from them today, apparently it IS from a plain bearing turbo and the machining work would incur extra costs. They also said they wouldn't expect me to gain as much as I would from a VG30 housing, but they could fit it none the less. What do you guys think?

Advice??? would the gain justify the hassle or should I try to find a VG30 housing. Slide do you have any you'd sell?

All the later model VG30DET turbine housings I've seen have OP6 stamped on the housing, as the R34 turbine housings do.

Its most likely an earlier vg30 turbine housing.

One things for sure it does appear to be bigger than the vg30/r34 turbine housings, so if they could use it it would open up the top end a little more.

Ahh there we go.. that will teach me for not reading all the posts before posting. :D

No go....

GCG started machining it out and then realised the bolt holes that connect the snail to the rest of the turbo would've dissapeared. Its about 2 cm smaller, but the rest of the housing is the same size as a VG30.

Oh well, looking again!

So you do need the OP6 stamped exhaust housing. I was about to get one from a plain bearing turbo untilk I found this thread.

Are all OP6 ones goers?

Do the plain bearing turbos still have water cooling..? I.e. how do you tell they are plain bearing?

Been real busy , yes the non ball bearing Hitachi cartridge is smaller in diametre than the BB one where it slides into the exhaust housing as is the bolt circle diametre where the crab plates clamp them together .

Not all the larger A/R BB exhaust housings have OP6 cast into them but the one I have does . Need to measure or after a while you can tell by looking down the throat so to speak .

P.s. Does anyone know how critical the compressor wheel size is to the power the highflow will make. Has anyone used the standard compressor wheel with a large exhaust wheel and made good power. COuld you still get up to 230rwkw?

I'm having my turbo reworked as the compressor wheel is much too large and thinking of going back to the stock wheel..coupled with the bigger metal exhaust wheel and possibly R34 housing.

Is the op6 housing a tell tale sign that it is a BB turbo?

I.e. could it have op6 on it ans still be plain bearing?

I'm sourcing a turbo from interstate and want to make sure I'm getting the right one. What can I get them to check before sending?

is a good choice to upgrade to vg30 housing, i had this done on mine and was very happy with overall results.. like the picture slide shows of the two housing i identified the vg turbo by measurements of ex housing, the distance between snail and dump flange is bigger in vg than rb, turns out there was no extra cost to adapt the housing as it was straight bolt up. managed 258kw at wheels too, gcg done the hi flow and swapped housings, great upgrade i believe, good luck :thumbsup:
