Just wanted to know if there is anywhere in hobart that you can get 98 RON fuel, or is it still unavailable?

Also does anyone use octane booster in their cars?

I was considering using some but wasn't sure if its going to cause any damage to the engine etc.

Dont be ridiculous...

Not in Hobart, but according to RACT, a competing oil company is coming to Tassie and they are bringing 98RON with them. So hopefully, maybe August, probably Xmas.

As for the other, I'm sure one of the guys on here will point ya in the right direction, I'm too noob to tell ya.... :ermm:

There have been rumours for the last 2 years that 98RON is coming but its still not here :ermm:

Once the LRP had been fazed out BP were supposably bringing there BP Ultimate 100RON to Tassie.

This would not only assist all the local but obviously be a bonus for the local racing community and Targa.

I haven't heard anymore about this though (maybe Benno or Perry can shed some light) and i hope it is soon (new engine being built  for the Beast)

As for using octane boost have a read of this:

http://www.martiniracing.com.au/Documents/...tini%20Fuel.pdf

http://www.martiniracing.com.au/html/superboost.htm

and it would be worth D/L the spec sheet and having a read.

Now i dont know what car you have, your mods or boost so i cant answer yes or no for booster.

If your car is stock as a rock then i wouldn't wste your money or time with any form of booster (unless you have really bad knock ) as your not reallly going to gain anything.

If you have wound the boost up a little (or planning to) and you have a couple of mods then it cant hurt to try OB but remember its not a 100% fix for knock and if you get a cheap OB it can actually cause knock!!!

I have tried alot of the OB's that are on the market and honestly you cant go past Martini.

Some people will say if your car's not tuned for OB then its a waste of time, other will tell you jsut to use it when you go to the track/strip.

At the end of the day if your seraching for BIG numbers here in Tassie on pump fuel then you would have to tune with OB but if your just after the occasional squirt with the fella's then go ahead!!!

If you give us a little more info on your car's mods and what you want to be doing then we can give you a better answer, but at the end of the day its just other people's opinions chief.

Best way is to get your own

Cheers GMB

No problemo, its a pretty imformative article and should answer most peoples questions with OB.

If you do decide to use it then dont skimp and buy some cheap stuff at the local servo, use Martini as you wont regret it and probably save you money in the long run :(

Should be here in August, might be a good birthday present for me if it is!

You will find that most servo's and storage places have been ready for 98RON+ for over 6months.

DrifTas can now supply Martini fuel and octane booster to all Tassie guys and girls.

This stuff is the best on the market "bang for buck" and you will see the improvments instantly!!!

Hey guys.........I'll answer all your fuel questions. I am the assistant manager of BP Morty's. We had plans to roll out Ultimate in Feb!!!!! Of course it didn't happen cause it got pushed back to April. Now they say August. My bosses are even wearing the jackets, so we are getting close. The LRP tank is ready, even the pump configuration is set, they could drop it in today if they wanted. Every time i see the guy in charge of distribution i ask him when it'll be here. Im hoping it is out before my engine goes in

Nulon is good stuff also. Dont use the basic "Fuel Treatment". Get the 4 litre tin from out the back - straight OB. Well as straight as you can get.

Cheers

Bov

Nulon is not bad but i would still go Martini over it.

Just better bang for buck in my opinion!!!

Well keep us all informed on the progress, and maybe tell the distibution bloke that we are more than happy to test/plug anything they want so long as its free

can you give SAU discounts :woot:

Thats one of the best ideas i have heard yet, i think we should take that straight to the big guy (Mr BP) and tell him that he cant get better exposure for product that than all the Tassie Skyline drivers!!!

Who is using and paying $147.00 for 20lt of 'martini' fuel in Tassie?. It would make it expensive to use for circut racing or targa. I'm not saying it wouldn't show results.

Don't know about that. I don't even get a discount! I get free coffee and i don't drink the stuff :O Although it could be done through one big account. The bigger the account........the bigger discount. Mulitple cards, monthly statements and even auto withdraw. Ill ask a few questions anyway

There are a few guys that run martini (as i have borrowed some when i got stuck) but most run Sunoco (which is more expensive) and if you talk to most of the top runner in Targa (specially the skyline guys) majority of them that i have spoken to the last few years run Martini or use Martini OB :D

a few of the Targa people run martini, and elf. Smells good when they go past.

Its the best smelling fuel (not that i get a kick out of sniffing it ;) ) i think the only thing that is better is happy gas or jet fuel :O

Its long overdue for better fuel to come to Tassie and i cant see it being related to a cost factor cause i would say its a safe bet that over 50% of people that are using 95RON premium would use 98+ in the cars.

Lets just hope its sooner rather than later to get to the pump!!!

Go to Shell at Selfs Point, they sell 20lt drums for $1.70 a litre, but you have to sign a waiver saying that you wont go street racing etc

Its only Optimax mate.

So considering what you can buy Martini or Sunoco for (much better fuels) i wouldn't waste my money.

I would run with 95RON and some Martini OB (will bump it upto 98.3RON)

and its a lot cheaper doing it that was as well :D

    • Harness update time have had great fun and learnt so much already so far with this project. I started off making both the ignition and injector sub harnesses in the hope any mistakes i made here aren't as hard to undo and learn from as the main harness.  A cool comparison of the old harness using presumably TXL wire and the new which is using Tezel. Also opted to use DTM plugs to keep the whole setup as neat and tidy as possible and tucked the wiring under the coil bracket to try and keep it all from sticking out too much. Although the injector harness, I'm not overly happy with as I'm still using the rubber boots that are supplied with the type of plugs it just looks ugly and sticks out like a sore thumb with the white identifiers so a slight redesign may be done.   Then it was main harness time and most importantly trying to route it nice and away from the heat it will use the OEM heater hose routing which is no longer present to keep the harness up high and secure. it's amazing how much smaller this harness is able to be compared to the old one. plugged everything into the emtron and with the help of the tuner again attempted to start it up and instantly fired up and running smoothly on all 6 which was a big shock to myself. So still some routing and adjusting to be done for the final fit up and installing a knock sensor harness plug which is in the post all has gone surprisingly well.     The old harness for shits and giggles.

    • I don't post on here and have been lurking for some time now. Many of the topics have helped me out more times than i can count. I was racing yesterday (11/9) and blew a front right CV shaft. I have spares so I popped a new one in. A thread i read previously said to check the engine mounts if you blow a front CV. Upon inspection, the front right mount was completely separated from the upper plate. This discovery saved me time and money, because i would have blown another CV if i went back out. Just wanted to thank you guys and wish everyone luck with with their builds. (Now if we could only come up with a solution for my power steering belt flying off after hitting the rev limiter, lol)
