hey guys, ok i went away for a week and a half came home and my R33 gtst wouldnt start the car was perfect when i left. came home had no power at all, tried jumpstarting it, got power to everything but when i tried to start it, it made a ticking noise for a while then nothing, tried a couple of times and got the same result.

Next day went out same thing no power tried charging it, still nothing, then i had power to everything tried starting it got nothing all my lights work everything but wont turn over it stopped making the ticking noise but still wont turn over, i checked my battery that fine, tried tapping my starter did nothing. all fuses are good spark plugs are good.

NEED HELP ASAP, thought maybe it had something to do with my imobiliser, but doesnt seem to.

i heard u cant put a starter from an auto into a manual is this true?

what else can i try...

Ermm. Sounds like your battery died.

Either:

It has a tiny bit of juice to work the lights, but not enough to start. The clicking noise is usually the solanoid that pushes the starter gear onto the ring-gear (or whatever manuals have)

Or:

Did you jump it from the battery in the boot, or off the fusepanel under the bonnet like you're supposed to? If you have a good battery, but still nothing happens, you could have blown your starter motor fuse. Check that fuse.

Either way, if the battery died after a week, it's time to replace it.

chances are its your battery as RANDY said.

to get it started keep the car thats jumping you at around 2000rpm with all electrics off (radio, lights etc), give the battery time to build up some power then turn it over.

i bought a new (cheapo) battery after the first time i got my car on the road after the first rebuild, 2 days later i took it off the road (didnt disconnect it) and 2 months after that i tried starting it and not only was it a complete c**t to start, it wouldnt turn back on if i turned it off.

moral of the story - disconnect your battery if you're not going to drive it for a while, especially if its crappy/old.

i got the sameproblem mate, wqent away for the long weekend and left my f***n light in the car on, the car didnt start , even with jumper leads from a barina the car was making a ticking noise but just wasnt turning on... i had a 6 month old battery so the nrma came and jump started it with a high powered battery,

my guess is skylines need alot more power than normal to start????

i took the battery out and put it in another car and it worked perfectly, and had it tested so i know its deffinatly not that.

i checked the fuse's there all good.

You're talking apples and oranges. A half-dead battery that couldn't start a V10 Viper would have little trouble coughing up the CCAs to start a Toyota Echo, if you follow what I mean.

What voltage do you have on the battery? How did you have it tested? The only reason people are pushing the battery thing is because all your symptoms are the same as a dud battery.

The only other potential cause could be your immobiliser. Depending upon the model, it may be built to detect a loss of power and shut itself down (ie immobilise the car). It's a long shot though as you've already said you can hear the starter solenoid firing...
