Twinturbo Surge=dead Turbo?

Hi everyone I'm looking for opinions about twin turbo setups and the possibity of one turbo surging back through the I/C pipes onto the other turbo?

I noticed while my car was on the dyno the there was a faint intermitant fluttering noise from the turbos at low revs, was this the turbos blowing back on each other?

If so could this cause the exhaust wheel to slow down in the path of the exhaust gases and become dislodged? as this id what happened eventually to the r32 gtr turbos, or is that just the fate of ceramic wheels

any ideas or discusion would apreciated

what turbo's are u using? you should have twin bov's and a joiner pipe between the intakes to balance out the pressure difference. have a search for compressor chuffing shuffling, as it sounds like that

sounds like a change of BOV problem at this stage

they are t28 turbos with equal length to a collector just before the I/C

The BOV is just infront of the T/B and works ok on back off, ie theres no flutter on back off just when the engine is running slowly off boost, sounds like water dripping slowly onto to a hot bbq plate

ok cheers guys i did a search on chuffing and shuffling(who would have guessed that)

seem that because AFM's are not an issue as i run MAP sensor and TPS only, the next logical thing is that the turbos are making boost too easily, no problem

are you using stock GTR BOV's or not was what i was getting at

no not gtr bov's just a silly cheap atmo job

That is the problem right there for the low rpm surging

put the stock ones back on and problem will go away

Yep, I had the same problem on the GTS25TT. Single BOV just off boost was shuffling. Next setup has GTR BOVs ready to go in.
