Hi,

I just picked up a 4 Door R32 for $4000. It's going to be my daily for a little while then a bit of a budget drifter.

Just want to know what is different with the suspension and rear end/diff.

Can i buy R32 coilovers and what diff should i get? Or should i go for a full skyline/s15etc rear end. Was thinking off keeping the four stud. Any real reason to go 5 stud? Would i break axles with what's in there now?

Sorry for all the questions.

Any help would be greatly appreicated.

As a budget drifter depending on how small your budget is at the least get an LSD. (Limited Slip Differential) a 1.5 or 2 way should do the job. You'll need to stiffen up the suspension so a set of second hand coilovers would do the job. 4 stud is fine but choice of rims can be a bit limited. Axles shouldn't be a concern. A decent clutch wouldn't go astray either for all the clutch kicking you'll be doing. There isn't much else you could do without spending lots of money. Feel free to correct me anyone as i'm only a novice but keen drifter as well.

the r32 coilovers will fit up fine just make sure you dont get the gtr ones. there is no problem with 4 stud however if you want to change to five stud all you have to do is buy the 5 stud skyline hubs.

i would spend the money on a good lsd makes a big difference, i would also get solid cradle bushes, with the de engine you will need all the suspension help you can get, i would also get some urathane caster bushes.

I'm going to put a RB20DET in eventually. I think drifting 92kw off RB20E will get frustrating very quickly. But just wanted to know about everything else. So it is all the same as a GTS-t except for the hubs and brakes really? So i'm after a R200 diff (with correct half shafts)?

Yeah might put some pineapples in. Is there any other drift neccesities?

Just upgrade to the GTS/GTS-T hardware when your current setup breaks. Maybe upgrade the brakes now though. You could also strip alot of the wait out of your car to. That would give the biggest gain to your power to weight ratio and it don't cost nothing either! you can remove the rear seats, carpet, interior panels and all the sound deadening if you really want to.

Well, he's bought an R32 4 door yeah? Then says is thinking of keeping the 4 stud... ?????? Ummm, please correct me if I'm wrong, although I pretty sure I'm not, R32 and any other Skyline onwards have 5 stud. : And then there's talk about GXi's GTE's WTF?????

R32 GXi = 1.8l dizzy driven CA18i SOHC engine

R32 GTE = 2.0L RB20E SOHC engine

These two were pretty much poverty spec cars, meant to ferry families around on the cheap.

R32 GTS = 2.0L RB20DE DOHC engine

This was the top of the range N/A you could get, still had 4 stud hubs, but had the same drivetrain as the GTSt, which is a lot stronger.

R32 GTSt = 2.0L RB20DET DOHC turbo engine

Turbo version of GTS

R32 GTS4 = 2.0L RB20DET DOHC turbo engine

AWD GTSt, sorta like half a GTR and half a GTSt

and the R32 GTR.

R33 had a similar model structure, although the poverty model was only available as an RB20E.

    • Modern oils are amazing. Add tyres to that as well.
    • Probably a smart choice to buy one vs build, purely for the motivation part as you said! Imagine the metal dust everywhere from grinding all the steel to build one. Ha ha ha!   Also, post a photo of your garage.   Mine is below, this is where I've been cleaning and have already half filled a caged 6*4 trailer. And this is after my cleaning expedition mentioned previously... The middle normally has a car in it, but I'm dumping things in the middle as I sort through them. And poor skyline was dusty and has had the lightest few drops of rain and now it looks atrocious and needs to be dragged back out and washed thoroughly! And yes to the right is technically another bay, you really can only see 2 bays out of 3 in this picture.  
    • It's more like on average the things I see a lot of things going wrong. Yes, usually the people who reach out are the ones who are having problems but on average it feels like mechanics and tuners here aren't really competent. I swing between thinking my standards are just way too high and wondering whether people really are just this dumb. I just had the strangest 10+ reply argument on a Facebook group over someone insisting that the factory R34 GTT boost control solenoid reduces boost pressure to 5 psi when it's on and raises boost pressure to 7 psi when it's off despite showing the exact plumbing in the factory service manual and the solenoid behavior detailed in the FSM.
    • I steam cleaned my near new set of volk gtc wheels 14 years ago and farrkkked them lol. The clear coat cracked like spider webbing in several areas. Lesson learnt don't do that. 😭
    • If you don't touch the CAS, then you're fine.
