Hey all,

I know it's been said many times 'if you want a manual, buy it from the factory', but I was wondering if anyone here has experience with a manual conversion on an R34 gtt? I'm after all the details and if possible, prices/specific workshps (I'm located in St Lucia, Brisbane and currently head to SR Motorsport at Kippa-Ring).

What are my options? Can I throw in an R33 box? How much would I be looking at for a second-hand Getrag box out of the GTR? I'm more than happy to shop in Japan (I know a bit of the lingo) so if anyone could give me some direction I'd be most appreciative.

Ok, so no replies...

Anyway, I've found the following for $3500:

box -- master cylinder -- wiring harness -- pedal box -- clutch + flywheel --- driveshaft -- dash meter panel

Does this sound reasonable? Is there much chance to resell the auto box to an R32/33 owner?

hey. I'm interested in converting my Gtt to a manual too.

but it seem that no one has done it befor, not to a R34 anyway.

I got a mag at home that have an article on 'how to convert a R33 or R32 auto to a manual'. not sure which one model :D but i will check and let you know.

good luck for now. I have try and still tying to look for infor on the net in regarding to mod to a R34 and there don't seem to be much.

It only stands to follow that there about 1/50th the amount of r34 on the road compared to r33, etc and that not many people have done this conversion.

The price to convert any new car is much more more than the price of an old shitter, and finding the parts is a much more expensive proposition.

If $3500 is true, its a bargain price if it is all that is required on a 34. I've only done this on an R32, not an r34, but it sounds like they are all the bits you'll need..

And the gertrag box? thats a 4WD box, and would require extensive / expensive mods to convert that to a RWD platform. Again, possible if you have thousands to spend, but if not... .

I can confirm the price above is genuine, hence I'm going to come out about where I'd be (financially) if I'd bought a factory manual.

The reason I was so interested in the GTR box is because I read Getrag supplied the same box for the JZA80 Supra, however I'm thinking this is not the case...

Sorry my post is really off topic but I just realised.... Your car is pictured in Septembers High Performance Imports magazine, I am fairly new around these parts and got that magazine as I noticed the Top Secret V2 R34 on the cover.... You are famous dude!

Hey guys. Really sorry I haven't noticed this thread until now.

I am the second person that I know of that has done the manual conversion. We both went to the same place but used different parts.

I conveniently had a manual R34 wreck so I took all the parts from there except the clutch line going from the master cylinder to the slave which some fcuker stole from me.

I would recommend using some R33 parts for 2 reasons. First is that they are more plentiful, second is that R33 GTST boxes use a push type clutch whereas the R34 GTT box uses a pull type clutch. The only reason this matters is because when looking at clutches to handle big power, push type are about half the price of pull type.

You can get an R33 GTST gearbox for about $1500 if you can find one. R34 GTT boxes are similar in price but even harder to find.

If you do use an R34 box you can use an R33 GTR clutch as they are pull type as well and fit up no problems. Also stronger.

New clutch master and slave cylinders are not too expensive.

Pedal assembly not too hard to find. Tailshaft must either come from a R34 manual (just the front half needed) or get a tailshaft specialist to make something up when you get a yoke from an R33.

Any RB flywheel will fit, need a flex plate but that's cheap. Flywheel bolts aren't too cheap. So try to get them with the flywheel. Get the flywheel machined as you will be using a new clutch no doubt.

So parts cost you are looking at I'd say anywhere between $2200 and $3500

Labour, both me and the other guy I know of got Greg from Autosport Engineering in Kirrawee (sydney) to do it for $1500 drive in drive out.

Umm what else... The interior parts are very hard to find. Might get better luck at Yahoo Japan auctions.

Mine is a 4 door and I used 2 door parts. Same wheelbase.

Dash and steering wheel are extra and hard to find. About $300 for a cluster and $200-300 for a steering wheel.

Clutch costs extra - depends how much power as to which one you get.

Stock ECU will work fine. PowerFC plugs straight in too.

Anything else?

if you are going to use r33 pedal assembly...the brake pedal assembly ..4 out of 5 bolts bolt onto the original holes..You can make up a new hole position with longer bolts. Shouldne be a problem..

the clutch pedal assembly fits perfect :D

ive just put the pedal assembly in and the clutch MC.

Just got your Auto tailshaft today from Stans workshop and hoping to mod it soon..but i got to find the second half of the shaft..the taishaft specialist needs it whole so they can balance it wen they swap over the yoke.

after that, it should be like a basic CLUTCH change..

LOL yeh i think i might have to, meaning car as to be off the road :woot: , but i need to get the exact measurments...If anyone has a r34 Auto and manual tailshafts lying side by side, can you me if the lengths are the same...from the top of the yoke to rear diff connection.
