You will find that a lot of the Australian delivered R30 parts are interchangeable, so the rear wiper arm and motor might be easier to find than you think.

Don't count on it, the hatch rear wiper assembly is lots different to the sedan & hardtop.

As for seats, I think you should be sweet talking Daren at Just Jap and see what he can find you in Japan, or maybe Joe or Geoff at SSS. Your biggest concern about a driver's seat is getting one in good working order. If it's an electric seat that is.

Cheers, D

I have tracked down the rear wiper motor and arm on fj20.com. Booster is also supplying me some other R30 stuff.

The parcel shelf from an Aussie R30 wont fit as I think the rear glass curves around too much and the trim wont fit against it. Fortunately, the trim on the parcel shelf as it fits to the lower glass area is ok. What I will do is fabricate a new section for the flat area, join it to the old parcel shelf and re trim in black carpet or vinyl. As regards to your earlier question re the Pioneer box speakers Dennis, they are in good condition, Cant decide whether to fit some new flush speakers or go old school and refit the Pioneer speakers to the new reinforced parcel shelf? What are your thoughts?

I contacted SSS and they dont have parts I need. I havent contacted JustJap yet as I dont have the cash at this stage for seats or a retrim. The seats are non electric so that removes that problem.

Long story short, very soon I will have most of the stuff I need with the exception of the seats/retrim and some trim for the boot area, in particular the trim panel that covers the rear lights and the space saver spare strap.

Just merely contacting SSS wont do it, you would have to talk to Geoff or Joe and ask them if they can source the seat for you. As for electric or not, check under what you have now, cause some have electric driver's and non passenger.

When you contact Just Jap, talk to Darren, he owns the place and they race a DR so he might want to help you if you approach it the right way.

I can probably help out with the tyre strap and if you need a template to make a new parcel shelf mine is perfect.

Speakers:

I don't know which way to bounce just yet, I have a set of Pioneer TS-X7's that are rated @ 20WRMS and a set of mid mount Beltek, that also come from the same era. The front's I have decided to go with Pioneer TSC1002 4" splits. They are rated @ 50WRMS. The drivers will fit in the dash where they were meant to be and the split will go in the soft cover panel under the dash, as they really can't be seen they stay retro sort of. The rears are the biggest problem because of lack of allowable space. They are made to take a 4" speaker unless some sort of box is made to take bigger. I have a pair of Pioneer VACCS 12" subs going in the boot.

My system is going to be a Beltek am/fm radio cassette head unit, (post mount) the pre outs are going to a Kenwood KGC 4042A Graphic Equalizer to control the 3 amps, Pioneer 2 x 50WRMS front, 2 x 20WRMS rear (fill sound) and a 2 x 85WRMS driving the subs & in the boot will be an FM Modulated Kenwood 10 stacker.

At the end of the day it's all personal preferrence, but I'm trying to keep it in a strange way retro to the era it was built, even my Monza Racing rims are late 80's vintage.

Cheers, D

    • Sounds like it is rotational in the driveline. CV? Tailshaft CB? Also.....didn't you just pay to have that bit painted and put on the car?
    • Yeah, when I dialled my idle down, given how much time I spent idling at the lights in traffic on my daily commute, the effect on overall fuel consumption was absolutely noticeable.
    • Emissions, fuel consumption, heat, noise, etc. most likely.
    • For me at least the reason why it bothers me is because it's indicative of a deeper problem. And that will nag at me forever. Especially because I have tailpipe emissions testing + evap leak testing every 2 years.
    • WELP. I went to the track, and I suppose it went okay because any time you can drive home is okay. You may notice the car is not on the circuit in this picture. It was about 35C day out in Benalla which means the track was approximately the surface of the sun, probably. Good things, car did not overheat but it _was_ warmer than when I had done track days in similar heat before, I think, I'm not sure - I can't quite remember. Coolant got to ~105 via the ECU after 20-30 minutes of belting it in said heat. Oil got up to 145C in one instance which is pretty crazy due to oil cooler. Pressures were fine. I seem to remember this not getting quite so high before the vents. More HMMMM'ing to be done. On the subject of HMMM'ing, can anyone identify the sounds in the video below, you will know which ones I mean: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uj3BkI2cbTc I included some 'normal' sound as a reference for the first minute or so. The microphone in this instance was where the license plate is. It stopped working later in the day which is why my "best example of a lap video (not produced)" had internal audio - Isn't hearable from inside the car. I don't mean the chirping of the un-bedded/badly bedded track brakes which you can only hear while braking... Thoughts, brains trust?
