I'm considering upgrading my cams in my RB20DET,

for a engine that in still relatively stock:-

-front mount

-split dump/front pipe

-air pod

-3' exhaust

-standard turbo

is it worth upgrading my cams yet, or should i wait till i upgrade

to a larger turbo?

If so, which cams should i be looking at?

Is there any benefit to just changing one of the cams and not the other?

check out these:

about $250 each inc postage. I don't think upgrading just one is a good idea, but I have no evidence to back that up, just a gut feeling that having everything symetrical is usually the way to go.

no you dont need new gears when changing the cams.

that depends on the results your after, mostly saif that tomei give the best results with std location.

where as other a/m cams can be adjusted to give different results

The order I would go from here;

1. Heat shield and ambient air feed, exposed pod is wasting power, big time

2. ECU, Power FC with Boost Control Kit

3. High flow cat

4. High flow turbo

5. Adjustable camshaft pulleys

Then see how the power is, properly tuned, maybe you won't need cams.

If you do, then choose any brand that you can find for an RB20DET, unlike the RB25 there is no one brand that stands out. Around 264 degrees duration with under 9 mm lift so you don't have to spend heaps on valve springs and fitting. The camshaft pulleys (unlike an RB25 with Tomei Poncams) are definitely beneficial. Even if you find zero degrees is the best, you can always sell them, they don't depreciate much in value.

;) cheers :)

PS, regardless, you can't put cams in without an ECU to tune.

hey, i been looking for a bit for a decent pod shield, can some one point me in the right direction? Looking to spend about $100-$150 on it. (to fit rb20det r32 type M)

Trying not to hijack the thread, looks like your questions been answered anyway :P

Don't mean to hi-jack the thread but i'd like a rough estimate on power upgrade.

I currently have

Hybrid cooler

Pod

Gtr injectors

wallbro 255/ltr hour fuel pump

full 3inch turbo back exhaust with Ces dumppipe(front)

Wolf3d ecu

and 14 psi

Im currently making 160rwkw

I'd like to know how much increase id get with set of cam's and highflowed turbo, retune and more boost.

Thanks.
