Following last month's stakeholder forum, the Australian Motor Racing Commission (AMRC) has endorsed the move towards a more sustainable set of rules and regulations for Production Car racing in Australia.

High on the agenda will be the use of the (non-slick) CAMS Production Car tyre list to reduce costs of all Production-based competition.

Chairman of the AMRC, Mr Graeme Emerton, confirmed that manufacturer involvement was a key to the future success of Production Car racing.

"Clearly this is a product of interest to both the supplier and the consumer which will set a sound foundation for the growth of this type of circuit racing."

"A long term plan will allow increased investment and subsequent marketing benefits that will improve the sport for all stakeholders," said Emerton.

Discussions are under way with the Bathurst Regional Council and their Bathurst International Motor Festival partners, Global Entertainment Team, to run a hallmark Production Car race during their Easter event.

"We are looking at further developing the second major event at Bathurst and see a significant Production Car race as being an exciting concept with great scope to develop into a long-term win for all parties," stated Neil Allen from the Bathurst Regional Council.

An announcement is expected within the next three weeks.

We have lodged an expression of interest for 4 cars to run in the proposed 12 hour race. Having done so in the previous 12 hours in 1993 and 1994.

cool. all GTR's or various cars?

If they can get manufacturers involved again, I think this would be a great thing to see. Good old fashioned class based production car racing on road legal tyres. Would give a great performance yardstick for potential customers.

Hell yeah. Thanks for the headsup Harry. Now for some other minor changes to make 'modern' cars competetive.

Is there a location for a list of proposed changes?

I'm all for a return to something more aligned to the old Group E production tourers - mild modifications permissible and controls in critical areas. Tyres fall in that category I reckon.

While the Nations Cup racing can be good to watch, it's all stratospheric prices that normal motorists can't ever aspire to owning.

Class based racing can be a really good thing.
