Well I've been looking in Granville but was wondering what Guildford is like.

Basically I'm trying to spend between $300k and $350k, needs a garage or room for one, 2 bedroom house and about an hour or less travel to the city for work.

What suburbs would people suggest I look in?

my old man has houses selling in padstow. its a block of 7 units, 1 is already sold, and they are willing to go free-agent :P

im not sure of the prices.. but you may be able to get one for that price.

its around 20-30mins from the city using the m5.

Adam, dude thought of hills area??? My missus lives out that way and its not an overly priced area and an easy trip to city (M2). Depends really which side of the bridge you wanna live on. I am looking @ buying in the hills area for sure. Gets my tick of approval :spank:

I'm pretty much in the same boat as you Adam - i.e similar budget, looking at similar areas.

I've only just started really looking during the last few weeks. Don't know if it's any help, but just to give you a few more ideas, I've been looking around Greystanes, South Wenthworthville, Toongabbie, Baulkham Hills etc. I think it's possible to find something quite suitable for close to $350k in those areas and even though they may be a little further out than Granville (10 mins approx), I actually prefer these areas a lot more personally.

I was in the city a week ago (2nd time driving in my life) and I tell ya what, you city folk can keep the stinking place to yourselves :) (city to me is the eastern beaches to granville area).

I enjoy my space.

I've lived in either Wentorthville or Toongabbie all my life, and I doubt I'll move far from here.

Not too far from Granville (about 10mins, as ECR033 pointed out), fairly centrally-located between the city and the west, and with the convenience of Parramatta, Blacktown and the Hills Districts all close by.

If you can find the right house/unit, then this area is great in my opinion.

With the new m7 far west is a great option and the city is easily accessible in 1 hour and if your looking for something just a little quieter the parramatta area, its great.

just look up www.realestate.com.au look in sydneys west (outer i think)

You could get a 10-20yr old 600sqm 3-4bedroom house for aorund $300,000.

Thanks for the response guys. What I'm worried about is the travel to the city. I'd love to live a bit out of Sydney (1000km or more would be good) but I work long hours so adding more than an hour in each direction on top the 10+ hours I spend at work might kill me.

i think you really need to look within 10km radius out from the city centre. any further and you will have a killer of a time commuting, and property within that zone is a far safer bet in the long term.

Im actuallt looking at berowara to buy.

Berowra is a good option for many people actually. Very underrated little suburb!

I'm looking at Northern Beaches but you get very little for your $$$ but then again the long term benefits will be better.

The Hills... will be a good option but with so much space out there it'll be a while before you see the value of the property really grow. However the new Rouse Hill Shopping Centre will get the prices moving in the right direction for current property owners!

As much as people dont like the area, there are some good buys south of the city.

My house to the city is around 15-20 mins off peak by car, or a 20 min train ride from the station :P

Head a little further south, the prices drop by lots, except the travel time goes up quite a bit by public transport, but not very much by car

Depends on the way you prefer to travel to work, and i know the answer to that one .....

So Abo Bob you use public transport to get to and from home.

Wentorthville,Toongabbie and pendle hill every train from these stations will stop at almost everystop in the morning and i think run only every 30mins in the afternoon. I think that if you work in the city which i do you have to check these things before buying if your using public transport and also how you get there, Having your car at the station all day you worry about it and i park mine behind locked fences(cos i work for the railway). Anyway the market is shit a the moment when i brought i got 30k off the house I brought and up to 40k of others.Just make offers and see how much they want to sell.

Brenden, do you work in the city?

I did previously, but have since seen the light and now work in the Parramatta area.

Brad (Blk180) makes a good point about the trains from Toongabbie etc though. You can't get express trains from those stations and they do usually stop all stations to Lidcombe, then just the 3 main stations to the city from there which probably adds at least 10 minutes to the journey (around 1.10h in total). They probably aren't as frequent as you'd like either, but when are they ever!

I did used to try and speed the journey up a little on the way home by catching the Blue Mountains express trains (only 2 stops to Parra) from Central in the arvo and then changing for the 'all stations' slow train at Parramatta which usually more than made up the extra 10 mins lost if I had caught a slow train from the city (little under an hour on a good day).

At the end of the day, public transport from anywhere out here (whether it be Granville or a little further down the line) going to the city is going to suck which is an unfortunate downside I guess. I eventually got fed up with it and went for something local with work, but that's just me.

    • No. The ECU's hose is for a connetcion between the plenum (assuming single throttle body, not ITBs) and the ECU's internal MAP sensor. This is the primary load measurement of the ECU - so you need to get this one right. This has NOTHING to do with the boost contol. The wastegate also needs to see a boost signal - but it is actually far better for it NOT TO COME FROM THE PLENUM (again, assuming single TB, and not ITBs). This should come from the turbo's compressor housing (assuming there is a nipple on there, which there might well not be), or on the boost pipe somewhere between the turbo and the TB. On the pipe from the turbo to the intercooler is usually most convenient. The boost controller is then located between that boost source and the wastegate, ACCORDING TO THE CORRECT PLUMBING DRAWING FOR THAT BOOST CONTROLLER. There is no general diagram or instruction that will be correct for every case. Then the other ports on the plenum are for purposes such as Duncan described. If the boost controller has an internal MAP sensor, for a boost display, etc, then it will want to be hooked up there, alongside the ECU and the FPR.
    • Ok gotcha, so one post to fpr  another to bov  and I have the mishimoto boost controller and a link g4+ so I’d just have the tuner set it up properly. For the last two from plenum post throttle to  ecu/ boost controller, I know that I have a hose coming from the ecu that I was confused about so I assume that’s what connect to the boost controller from the ecu? And then the last is just from plenum to boost controller then to wastegate?
    • From there, it was just a quick electrical check, prime the oil and start her up Which, is not what happened. 1. Bloody seppo Aeropro battery holder. Not only was it too tall for the battery (which I'll forgive them for, I have another battery the same nominal size that is taller than Neil's one, but the bracket is a fixed height so the battery was spaced up) But the thing that really shits me is the hardware to hold it on requires a 7/32 Hex key. WTF. No-one will ever be able to remove or install the damn thing without a hex key they don't own 2. Kill switch no longer worked once the console was installed. Neil mentioned above he had to adjust the length but it no longer cleared the console once installed. Sorted. 3. Suspiciously, the brake light holders were hanging in the boot with no globes. Sure enough the stopper on the brake pedal was missing so they are always on unless the kill switch is activated. Will pick one up tomorrow (turns out 32 and 33 don't use the same stopper) 4. All that sorted, I turned on the kill switch, turned the key to ACC. Nothing. Turned it to IGN. Nothing. Checked some fuses and found the main IGN in the boot was missing which improved things once it was replaced. Now ECU and dash lights turn on with IGN but still no fuel pump. 5. Turned it to Start....ECU on, no fuel pump, no starter. Plus the voltage dropped straight to 9v.  I suspect the starter is f**ked but am going to have to work through it all and see what is happening, really looks like more than one issue. Does anyone have the R33 fuse box key with the circuit it sources from (eg BAT, ACC, IGN, SRT etc) and supplies? I can find a translated list showing Amps and circuit without supply circuit, and I can find supply circuit without Amps and target circuit.
    • 3rd time lucky, the AAC is now all plumbed up after getting some final fittings All set up under the plenum of maximum access
