no you dont just check tha seal on the cap to C that's whole(if not CHANGE or your car will overheat when you put tour foot down) and also check the spring.

I just use Caltex radiator coolant.... Its supposed to be a 50/50 mix. Flush your radiator, e.g. drop all your water out (undo the bottom hose on the radiator.... I think I undid the one going to the motor as it was easier then pushed the hose down to the ground). Put the hose back on fill it up with clean water (and radiator cleaner if need be) and start your car so it runs through and turn your heater on.then once its been running long enough pull that hose off and drop that water out.... once you have done that fill up with fresh coolant and water (premix it @ 50/50 or what ever the bottle says) and you will be sure that you have flushed it.

Cheers

Sumo

P.S. Let your engine/radiator cool down before you put cold water in it as it may cause things to crack (expanding and contracting too quickly)

How do you bleed the radiator? I know where the bleeder is, but dunno how to do it exactly. Do you just fill up the radiator and leave the bleeder open until all the air bubbles escape then close it again?

Also how long does the water pump usually last? I'm just wondering if I should change it at the same time as I do a coolant flush with my upcoming 100k km service.

Not sure of the correct way but i just filled the radiator - then with the car idleing, unscrew the bleeder right out. it will bubble and carry on for a couple of mins. keep topping up the the radiator in the process.

carefull if the car is hot because the bleeder tends to spit a bit.

hope this helps some

if u use 33% usualy 3 years i do mine every 2 years on all my cars and its always very clean . when i let the old one out i flash the system , undo the bottom of the radiator and the screw on the engine block so it lets all of the old coolant out flash it with clean water blow all water out then fill it up again .

SKYLINE_PAUL, u say ur water is gone muddy, i had this problem b4, firstly the best coolant to by is just nissan coolant, when u flush ur radiator outby something that kills rust, the reason why ure water is so muddy is because u had to much water not enough coolant, after u have the new coolant in make sure u check the car over the several days because u may get a few leaks , mainly the water pump, and also keep checking the under the cap over the next few weeks to see if it stays green, i had to do about 3 flushes b4 i got the nice green colour back, urn cooling system is the most important thing on ur car,

the reason ur water is muddy is because at some stage before it had just water in it or the coolant was very old and infective , common with jap imports as they are not serviced in japan .

give it a good flush and use a good coolant ready mixed dont add any water to it . u can use any coolant as long as it is at least 33% and change it every 2 years .

Guys, how many litres of coolant will be needed do you think?

I've got 5 litres of 60 Plus (2 Years) coolant, and it says not to mix with other coolant or water.

I just dont want to get half way through the job and realise I need more and be sorta stuck with an undriveable car?

    • We have some genuine Japanese legally decommissioned car number plates now in stock 🙂 Add some legitimately obtained JDM style to your Skyline or other Japanese model, or simply as a garage/man cave decoration! About the 40mm hole: The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure & Transport in Japan recognised the popularity of keeping decommissioned plates among car enthusiasts and came up with a method to "destroy" (or render them unusable for street use) while still retaining their collectable/usable value for display etc.  We have 40mm hole covers available to cover the hole nicely with a Sakura motif, which are also available in white in (very!) limited quantities, however they frequently sell out. Please let me know if you're wanting one or more of these and I'll check availability. The Sakura motif covers are more common. https://www.oemsoko.co.jp/products/genuine-decommissioned-japanese-vehicle-number-plate-set-su-7515 https://www.oemsoko.co.jp/products/genuine-decommissioned-japanese-vehicle-number-plate-set https://www.oemsoko.co.jp/products/genuine-japanese-vehicle-number-plate-400mm-hole-cover *Please note that we can't obtain particular number or area name (eg: "Gunma 500 Fu ・86") if requested. All plates are provided as they become available after decommissioning.
    • Ah, fair enough. For the IAT, I'm using a legit GM sensor that was used on the car prior to my current build. I'll get another wideband and IAT ordered and follow up when they show up. Thanks for the help.
    • You shouldn't need to massively fatten up the mixtures for cold conditions. For one thing - 0°C is not that cold. For another, the Haltech will be using the IAT sensor to tell it how dense the air air, and calculate the correct amount of fuelling. Then the cold start enrichment is added as a % on top of that, so it should scale with the main fuelling. You might also doubt the IAT sensor at this time. You're not using one from an RB26 are you? Using a nice Bosch sensor or similar? Happens. Some wideband units take great pleasure in killing their sensors. Put another wideband in the tailpipe and compare. Or just swap the sensor to a brand new one and see.
    • Oh, my misunderstand. When the car was running, it sounded ok, but if I gave it any gas it wanted to die but caught itself afterwards. It's very different from how it was a couple months ago when it was warmer outside. The logs show that the AFRs are better during, what I assume, is warmup enrichment. Because it's cold, and air is more dense, should I work on the enrichment bit?
    • yess of course im not using 2nd hand parts from my spare engine, but the place where i live is hard to find parts for the RB20DET ,but for the RB20E is everywhere including new ones and a lot cheaper ,because for the RB20DET you have to order it overseas to get one and it cost a lot of money 3x the price to be exact. so i ask this topic because if i can use the new ones but for RB20E is it compatible or not. if not im screwed haha, not totally screwed but i have to save a lot of money first before i can begin repairing my engine, thanks for the information before.
