Hi Guys,

I have recently bought R34 and the airbag indicator is blinking everytime i drove it. I was told by the previous owner that its the alarm system that causes it to blink. In otherwords, the autowatch alarm system that is currently installed in my car has conflict with the airbag system. I am not sure what is exactly going on here. I have brought it nissan dealer to have it checked but they havent found the cause of this and I was asked to leave the car with them for further investigation.

Has anyone experienced it before?

Is it true that the alarm system is actually conflict with the airbag system?

for your information, my car has side airbag and nissan ppl suspect that the side airbag has something to do with this. My autowatch alarm also has integrated turbo timer.

Any helps/opinions will be highly appreciated. Thanks guys.

My recommendation would be to call the person who installed the alarm and or contact Autowatch directly, there is no point asking people who don't know anything about car alarms.

How interesting that you bag out people on this forum stating we dont know anything. As the guy was asking for help I would have thought you would be a good person to ask, that is of course by looking at your website.

http://www.securityinmotion.com.au/index.html ( autowatch logo on front page of website)

http://www.securityinmotion.com.au/page/car_alarms.html ( autowatch products listed)

http://www.autowatch.com.au/product.asp ( autowatch website just prove my point)

http://www.securityinmotion.com.au/page/links.html ( direct link to autowatch website)

For those that haven't looked, Danielr34 links to a site that sells Autowatch Alarms, the very same brand that ecr33sky is having some problems with.

So with that in mind, I guess Danielr34, you really have just told the world that YOU dont know much about the product you are selling/ promoting through your own business.

Why dont you do us all a favour and instead of bagging out all those that may ( and most likely do) know more than you about products we are linked to, offer some type of constructive advice or ( and even more simply) Dont post useless unhelpful crap.

ecr33sky - It is highly unlikely for an alarm to interfere with a airbag system, whilst nothing is impossible.

My suggestion would be to take the vehicle to an authorised and knowledgeable dealer of Autowatch. Have the alarm disconected ( temporarily) then have the car inspected by Nissan or an Auto Electrician that has Airbag diagnostic equipment, This will tell you where the error is and then they can go about fixing it. Airbag lights generally only flash/ illuminate while a circuit or some part of the airbag system has a problem. This could be a serious problem as the airbag in some cases ( mostly late models magna's and falcons) is more likely to deploy while driving if this warning is occuring.

So why disconnect the alarm? Easy, some people, and generally not the smart ones will take any oppurtunity to blame a component for something, in this case the alarm setting off the system. By dusconnecting the system , you can be sure that there is no interferance, and that way if you get the old line " it's got something to do with the alarm" you know straight away that person is telling fibs. Beleive me, underskilled "technicians" will do this.

Once the airbag system is working, then have the alarm reinstalled/ connected by an authorised and knowledable dealer.

I would suggest someone that doesnt play dumb with their own line of products.

never seen this! to be honest someone has tapped a wire they shouldn't have. you mentioned side airbags what is the EXACT model (chassis code will do) of your car. reason I ask is I have never come across one with side airbags.

take it to someone that works with autowatch (if you are in SEQLD bring the car to me.) and get hte alarm disconnected. from there its off to a nissan dealer to get the codes pulled. once you have done that get hte alarm recoonected AFTER you ahave driven aroudn for a week or so with NO problems.

thats the only way to debug the problem easily.

Thanks very much for the suggestions/helps/opinions guys.. ..

appreciate it very much...

I have already got someone to work on it. It has been diagnosed and its unlikely caused by the alarm system. the diagnosis result is there is open circuit somewhere in the passenger airbag circuit. I will have to check the connections to the airbag system... So yeah...hopefully I can find the cause of this problem soon....

    • Hey all, not sure how active SAU is anymore but will ask away anyways. Just wanted to get some experience on the 2008 model GTR CBA model.  I've hit that age in my life (43) where I'm like fk it time to get my dream (midlife crisis) car. Looking at importing one in and seeing if these can be reliable if the main flaws are fixed up. Plan is to keep money aside to do the following straight off the bat to future proof it: * install a stage 1 rebuilt trans with all new bits and pieces.  * install a new Bellhousing from the later model GTRs. Or potentially an upgraded stronger version like MAD or ATR. Besides the above two things and typical maintenance items anything else you'd recommend doing.   Been speaking to a few people and the engine on these are very reliable apparently. But keen on the view of the community here. Hoping to find a nice grade 4.5 with low mileage in Grey. I'd go black but swirls too easy. Look forward to your responses and feedback. Cheers

Ended up selling it and getting married having kids (yadda yadda) we all know how the story goes. Now I'm back with the intention to get my midlife crisis (dream) car ... a R35 GTR.  You'll see me about asking questions and searching the forums. Good to be back and can't wait to get back an Import again.
