is it really worth getting one, evryones talking about it,

is it the afm from a 300zx??

and how much do these things cost?? what sort of differences will i notice/will it make??

thanx

ps: would a z32 afm help this problem:

i took my car for a drive yesterday and i found that if i start from 0km/hr, and go through the gears racing style changing at like 6500 rpm it wont hiccup/jerk, drives perfect, but it does hiccup/jerk when i plant my foot for example in 2nd gear at low revs, it hasnt happened once in 1st gear.

like yesterday i went around a corner in 2nd gear at low revs, then i floored it and it hiccuppued at 3000rpm, then 4000rpm, then i changed to 3rd and it hiccupped at around 4000rpm and again in 4th at around 4000 rpm. this is the best description i can give, any ideas, this is becoming a real serious problem??

Hi PashaK, unless you engine is making at least 350 bhp (210 rwkw) and you have an after market ECU (eg; Power FC) a Z32 AFM will be of no benefit. Both the Z32 and RB20/25 AFM's are 80 mm in diameter, so no additional airflow. The only advantage in a Z32 AFM is that it allows resolution at higher airflows (ie; over 350 bhp).

The problem you are having will not be resolved by a Z32 AFM. It sounds like either spark plug failure or a dirty AFM. My suggested solutions would be new plugs and clean the AFM with brake cleaner.

Hope that helps.

well this problem only happens on high boost, ive already ahd new sparkys installed, regapped to 0.8mm but it didnt help.

im running 0.85 bar (around 13 psi) of boost

i looked at the air flow meter and it looks perfectly clean to me,

you don't HAVE to go aftermarket to run the Z32 AFM.

My 33 ECU has been chipped so that counts out paying upwards of $1500 for aftermarker ECU's and crap like that.

The chip can be adjusted right down to the VVT just like Power FC's etc etc

Hi R31Nismoid, how much did it cost to have your R33 GTST RB25DET Nissan ECU re-chipped? Was it done online on the dyno or mail order? Who?

Hi PashaK, sounds like you may be hitting the standard over boost cut out, have you had that dissabled in the ECU (via a rechip) or an overboost defeater fitted? The standard cut out normally kicks in at 12 psi, so it sounds like it.

Hope that helps.

Dunno mate.

I got it like that outta Japan... i ain't seen it done over here yet.

It's got no marking or anything. But it's going to save me Thousands!!!!!

But that ECU/Engine is in an R31 GTS-R mate.... RB25's go harder in lighter cars ;)

Sydneykid, i thought the safc 2 removes boost cut,

thats what the guys that installed it said, i used to have a turbosmart fuel cut defender in it which is supposed to remove boost cut as well as fuel cut, they said i dont need it anymore as the safc 2 does the same job.

are you sure the 1993 r33 series one gtst has boost cut??

Hi R31Nismoid, so that means when you do some more mods or power ups, you are stuck with the ECU tuning the way it is? Or is there someone here who can reprogram it live on the dyno for you? Have you got a quote on how much they will charge? I know an R32 ECU re-chip is around $700 with dyno time so I suspect that since the R33 ECU is "unknown" it may be more.

Two or three mods later and the "thousands" are gone.

I bought an R33 GTST Power FC for $1400 about 18 months ago and just sold it for $1400 so cost was, let me see, Zero.

How much does the R31 GTRS weigh with the RB25DET in it?

Hi Pashak, every R33 GTST I have seen has had a problem with overboost protection at 12 psi. Maybe I have just been unlucky.

If I was looking for this problem I would stick the fast and wide lambda sensor up the exhaust pipe and go for a drive, the data log would give me a good indication of whether it was fuel or not. But it still sounds like ignition to me. Maybe others have had similar experiences and found better answers.

Hope that helps in some way.

It's fully tuneable.

You can adjust it to suit what you want/change or whatever.

You can do it 'live' it just means adjusting the map on a PC and then just burn a new chip... pop it in and run the Dyno again.

Same as what ya do to a 32 ECU.

Chip for an R32 ... $700 ? that's a bit rich.

say an hour - 2 of dyno time... $100-$200... and $500 to tune ? i think that's a bit expensive

The RB25 only weighs about 50kg more... and i think some HICAS bits are missing... so aroun the 1100 - 1200 mark.

lot's lighter than a 33.

Hi R31Nismoid, so it's heavier than a R32 GTST, ours weighs 1160 kgs on the corner weight scales with the RB20DET and RB20DET gearbox in it. With the RB31DET and RB25DET gearbox it weighs 25 kgs more.

The blank chip and socket is a little over $150, dyno and operator time at $80 per hour, mechanics time at $40 per hour, amortise the cost of the re-chip software, the chip burner and the lap top. There is no margin left in it at $700.

Let me know when you find a shop that does a re-chip live with full power curve, air fuel ratio and ignition tune on the dyno for much less than $700. I will send lots of cars there.

mmm... not 100% on the weight... but yeah, iut's heavier than a 32... but lighter than a 33 that's for sure

???

i got my old ECU chipped... bleed valve install and tuning... for around the $400 - 500 mark.

The map way already pre-tuned and didn't need Dyno work though.

Personally the 33 chip i got is half the price of a Power FC... with pretty much the same features right down to the VVT adjustment (if you know where/who to tune it)
