latest 'pull over'

met 2 mates in town last nite around 830ish and they got in my car n we proceded to go get a coffee at norwood on the parade. we started driving, took the extention of rundle st where the parking is, proceded to turn right towards the parade behind PAC while listening to backstreet boys (dont ask) where a cop car comes out of a side street infront of me.

He waits for me 2 pass, and then comes behind me lets me go round the corner, n then puts his lights on. I pull over. I wasnt speeding, going sideways, didnt have visible rust on my ca, have objects petruding outside with no flags , not drinking, etc etc.

Cop comes over to my window shines tourch and goes "trying to bring attention to yourself driving that thing around?" i go "no, just going 2 get a coffee, is there a problem officer" he goes "just give me ur licence and once we do a check u can b on ur way" i give him my licence, goes does a check n then lets me go.

Point of the story is: Pointless.

Same has happened to me, i was at a mates house parked on his lawn minding my own business, when it came time to leave i was barracaded in by their cars so i crossed the footpath and went across his neighbours median strip, as im coming off i hear a thud on the back of the car, so being suspicous as you would i stop and get out around the corner and look for obvious damage (it was dark) cant see anything so just went home then i get a message from a mate to check my boot right next to the swivel nissan badge, and sure enough there is a major dent from his neighbour throwing a rock the same size as the rocks along train lines, then to top it all off i get a cop arrive at my doorstep 15min later, with car parked on driveway checking it, i had the rego run out but was waiting for sticker in post which ended coming 2 months later, he said he had reports of damage to the neighbours house(which their clearly wasnt the case) after having been interviewed, he left and went to check for damage and gain the report and said "ill be in contact with you and make sure you have the recipt" then three days later i got a phone call from him saying there is no damage but i will be getting a fine for driving on footpath WTF. I asked about the damage to my car having to witnesses see him throw it and he told me i cant do anything about that, but he came over my house for the exact reason, so i got in contact with some of the officers and say i should not have got that fine and i am now taking him to court as a 'Victim of Crime' and have been waiting bout 11 months but finally get an output in the next hopefully, i put so much love into this car and just stupid things like this get on your nerves a bit. My point really is it is also the pick of the draw aswell. I think it was cause of the car and am on my P's but i drive responible on the roads, this caused me to loose 3 demerit points of the whole 4 i have. So now i have to be really carefull for the next year, i just keep it safe and dont attract attention and i have seemed to avoid all problems and not been pulled over for awhile now and i drive right across town due to seeing misses.

Nozila,

Honestly, if you see police as low lives then now doubt your local constabulary probably think the same of you. If you are going to drive an import around the parks, they are not targetting you specifically, they're pulling anything over that moves and bonefiding the driver. (High drug area). About number plates, usually the passenger is going nuts putting in regos on the in-car computer and we can check your history from there.

Vange,

How loud did you have the Backstreet Boys (lmao) playing?? There are now laws regarding car stereo noise, and it's an impoundable offence.

Let me guess, you use the same DB meter(your ears in your case) as you use for exhausts.........

And impoundable, geez wouldn't have thought "hooning" and "liking music" would be a similar offence!!! Are you dead set serious Mr Officer(sorry don't know your name)?

Geez the more you inform us the more i really wanna go have words with Mike Rann, and trust me it won't be all about "cars" and the "lovely roads we have"

For starters, exhausts are defected using calibrated noise meters. If a car fails, then it is defected. Same as ride height should be measured.

As far as stereos go, it has to be seen by the officer that the noise was likely to disturb people in the vicinity. Firstly we issue a notice that is valid for 6 months that says the noise is to cease. If the noise continues then the driver is reported/arrested and the car impounded for 48 hours. The onus of proof to the contrary falls on the defence. If you desire, it is section 54 of the Summary Offences Act 1953. Impounding offences are listed in section 66. Also, a notice prohibiting sale is also issued. This should answer your question. If you don't like the answer, don't ask the question.

P.S. I agree 100% on the roads.

1st and foremost, funnily enough Im not targeted in my imports. It has always been in my parents car - maybe you should read my post again.

Ok, fair enough they patrol 'the parks' but its ridiculous when an officer does an illegal u-turn and tails me, during which time he passes a car that has one blown/dim headlight (in which the same car I was driving was considered unroadworthy in the past and given a defect) then proceeds to pull me over just for a license check. Now, is that not only being targeted but also being discriminated against?

Sure, maybe calling SAPOL low lifes is not called for but when YOU feel TARGETED you dont really become considered anything in my views atm. In addition to this, you dont really portray to the general public a very good image of 'to serve and protect'. If there was a crime/accident, I dont think the police would be the point of call. But then again, a rotten apple(s) cant be used as a generalisation of SAPOL as a whole.

U honestly cant believe that happens in the real world. How many stories are there of officers say "too loud" and issue a defect notice because of how loud a car "sounds" rather than testing as per the ADR rules, which u are all supposed to enforce, but have little or no knowledge of yourselves.

Its all good to say this act, section etc...but we all know this never happens. Maybe if the police follow the laws they enforce, they might set a better example for us "wingers".

Iv never seen, or heard of an officer defecting a car for too low, and pulling out the tape measure. Its always instant defect to regency. Are there even any "cop shop" defects any more? No, because we all know money talks, and regency is a revenue raiser.

end rant/

Well said..........It's like we need lawers sitting next to us just to tell the officer what he/she cannot do, because as if they will believe us, bang defect, and they say talk it over with regency.......yeh for sure is that before or after we spend how much money!

Thinking there needs to be a debate on this sorta topic on tv or something between us car enthusiests(of anyage because we are all not of the younger variety) and that Mal Hyde/Mike Rann tool, think there would be alot to be answered for!

I'll bring every one back to a few things GTSD1 has stated in previous posts as we appear to be going around and around.

from the traffic watch thread....

I've been sitting on this for a while but it's time I came clean. I am a self confessed Skyline nut AND a police officer ( I know, weird aint it??). Basically I'm sick of seeing us (either police or enthusiasts)as being labelled, because of the attitudes or actions of a few. How does it go?, one bad apple? Works either way.

I would much prefer to take the all the smoke belching, brake fading, oil dripping pieces of crap off the road for good than defect ONE Nissan or other import for minor stuff. Mind you, having said that, if it is a totally blatant no-no, then I wouldn't have much of a choice.

The problem of 'Modifier v Police' is nothing new. We just have the unfortunate situation of being able to bolt on a truck load of stuff in our cars instead of just dropping in more cubic inches, and said 'stuff' confuses the crap out of those who don't know much about cars. I try to educate my collegues but how much of it sinks in is anybody's guess. Since the 40's and 50's, guys have been modifying their cars and being hassled by the police. It's not just us import drivers either, there are a ton of other cars that pop up on the radar. Obviously mainly Holden Sphincters.
And no, my 33 is not completely stock. I've even been questioned on a couple of things by our own traffic department. Naturally I showed them how legal it really was. Moral of the story...... Even though a car can be legal, it will still attract attention. I know I'm reasonable and that's all I ask of the people I speak to.

must be target vange week this week....

again 2nite was driving home and there was a bretho on main north rd, and the thing was full of cars, but the cop stopped me n was gona make me go in but the car was taking 2 long so he said pass, but they all looked at my car.

i rekon we should have a 'import register' for ppl like myself n other son here, so cops have our details on file that were good drivers, have safe cars, arnt hoons (unless we proove ourself otherwise) etc etc. that way b4 they pull me over 4 no reason on a sat nite cos the cop feels like busting a young kid in a sports car, they can read that im 23, got my own busines, have good driving history, and my car is not 'modded' like a 18 yo's commodore.

lol nah not that loud made, could just hear it if u were at the window. but thats not y they pulled us over. reason i we were playing it was cos we pulled up next 2 some chicks at the lights b4 n thought we would have a laugh and play metrosexual music. u should c wat other songs this cd has hahaha.

ps wats the law on playing police siren sounds through ur stereo lol had this song where the end has a siren and it does the siren backwards (like when a cop tells u 2 pull over)

pps GTSTD1, if i were u i wouldnt b giving 2 much advice about stuff, we wouldnt wana get u in trouble by saying so n so said this next time we get pulled over. (my thoughts)

In respect to the whole noise debate, every time i've been with someone that has been pulled over I have yet once to see any dB meter present or measuring device, just the officer's judgement. That in itself can be targetting as I have had two skyline drivers apply harassment charges to traffic officers. More so when it was cleared at regency and the same officer targeted the same car within a week and gave another defect -> with no changes to the car and refusal to look at the notice from Regency.

But I will also say there are a few cars out there that aren't bad, just some that I personally think have issues and 'have' to defect part. cars (if they are told to do so, which i believe is so from a family member (in SAPOL)).

There are alot of irregularities with the way each officer approaches and the grounds on which they defect, to some point i'd wish they just had set guidelines and went about it appropriately, and in some cases, without the high ground attitude.

This doesn't apply to you GTSTD1, as you tend to at least discuss and look at both sides of the fence.

As far as defects for exhaust noise being done without at dB meter, it really is easy guys. If they suspect it's too loud, then it is - the legal limit for exhaust noise is VERY quiet. I have heard of factory HSV systems not passing the test, or being VERY close to the limit, and they are worlds away from even the quietest aftermarket systems.

Deluxe, I posted some links in another thread to impounding offences information, and stereo too loud is definitely on the list!

i was in rundel street lastnight bout 10:30-11 saw a nice black r33 gtr with 4 cops going over it. yes thats right 4 of the piggys. the car looked fairly stock with some nice chromes on it i thnk. this is really crap somethn needs to be done im a regency virgin so i cant really do anythn but feel sorry for all of u that have had ur cherrys poped by the cops.

I saw a black 33 gtr getting new turbs and few other bits and pieces from boostworx.... HOpe it is not the same one (It would be an expensive few weeks if it was)....

IF everyone who receives a defect sticker drives without going to regency and just keeps driving afterwards they wont be able to pull over everyone or have the time and resources to chase and follow every one up!.

They pick on us import guys as they see us as a good cash cow.... They are not going to make much money by pulling the bogans with rust buckets over and defecting them (they dont defect cars for unroadworthiness they do it for cash)!!!! They cant even afford to run and maintain their car let alone pay for getting things like brakes and lights fixed. (ie the dangerous unroadworthy stuff)

All you have to do is wakeup take a look around you and realise every thing revolves around money!!! Just discretely drop a 100 near the door handle of your car when the copper next sticks his head in the car and i will gaurantee 99% of the time your problems will dissappear!!!!!

correct me if im wrong

are we the only state not to hav an annual roadworthiness certificate requirement

everywhere else i read about cars needing annual RWC which keeps shitheaps off the road

plus its somewhat easier to deal with modified cars as there's more workshops that can "engineer" whats on there? am i right with that statement?

bugger it, lets all move to qld - no defects there :yes:

    • Update: Tunehouse looked into the problem and identified a wiring issue between the camera unit and the connector. They managed to get it working , but did warn me at some point it will stop working again. From their perspective it is unserviceable and will need replacement. They did some research and found that the new replacement camera would be Approx $1400 supply only (their fitting cost would be $190) . They did provide the part number (28442-JL05B) and a quick google of the part number shows that these are rather expensive brand new (seemingly no longer in manufacture) for the places that still have them in stock, with the used option potentially presenting  the same issue down the track at some unknown point. They are happy for me to supply the part so that they can fit it. Decisions, decisions... I can definitely recommend Tunehouse (thankyou Vee37!). Cost for the diagnosis was as quoted  ($190) , car was ready on time and communication was top notch. Their workshop is super clean and modern, and there was plenty of car candy parked out the front on the day I went.   Would definitely go back.

For the outdoor air sensor and sunlight sensor, disconnect the wiring connected to CN1-11 of the air conditioning harness from the harness and connect the sensor side wiring to earth. For the indoor air sensor, disconnect the wiring connected to CN2-3 of the air conditioning harness from the harness and connect the sensor side wiring to earth. The connector PIN numbers listed here are the genuine A31 PIN numbers. To avoid incorrect wiring, check with a tester before wiring. Also, disconnect the wiring in a location close to the sensor. The disconnected harness side wiring will not be used, so be sure to insulate it." Wish someone sold a conversion harness to just plug-and-play a Kouki 180sx digital climate control into C33/A31. The way to do it is to "hold OFF with the key on for more than 5 seconds, set the number to 5, then press 卍→C." ↑↑↑It probably won't make sense unless you actually try it (・∀・)." Lol wtf
