correct me if im wrong

are we the only state not to hav an annual roadworthiness certificate requirement

everywhere else i read about cars needing annual RWC which keeps shitheaps off the road

plus its somewhat easier to deal with modified cars as there's more workshops that can "engineer" whats on there? am i right with that statement?

bugger it, lets all move to qld - no defects there :yes:

yes that is so true, still cars get defected, but my old vl didnt get done once and got pulled over heaps. back in adelaide 4 days and driving under the goodwood road trainline all of a sudden a cop on bike pulled out from nowhere 'your tint looks too dark', 'oh it looks low also', gets out tape measure and im done by 5 mm. car had to go to regency, lucky they let me get thru as had like 2 leaks

Sorry its been a while, too busy locking up wife bashers and car thieves.

Vange,

If BSB was laughable then nah, best ya keep the rest of the songs to yourself. If they let you thru the bretho but looked at your car, don't worry, they'll forget about it in 5 min. Such is the life of a bretho cop. Don't worry about getting me in any trouble, I've deliberately kept my answers aplolitical with only pointers on where the relevant law is, so any interpretation is up to the individual.

Matty,

You're 100% spot on. Every other state has conmpulsory roadworhtiness on yearly registraion. I've lived in 4 states and SA in the only one without it. Like I mentioned earlier, I only defect cars that are flat out dangerous. If SA adopted this my defect rate would drop dramatically. When I moved back from WA the bloke at regency warned me about my window tint on my Holden Shpincter (It was 5% too dark). Like that's going to be a hazard in snoozy SA traffic! May be he should come to Sydney, then he can whinge.

REdgtst,

You're obviously not listening. Its all about safety. Not just yours, but those around you.

I was whats considered targeted today just before turning in to Marion Shopping Center.

I was approaching Marion Shopping center to turn in to the southern entry/exit when I noticed a heap of police on both sides of the road, I was in a group of cars and in the right lane heading west to turn in to marion, the motor bike cop walked in front of and stopped the traffic, walked inbetween the cars up to me (2nd car back from the leading) and asked me to pull over.

I pulled over, he walked up and said random license and registration check, so I pulled out my license as he looked over the car briefly, he said my front window tint is too dark (which it is/was as its 35% all round + being in a coupe makes it look darker again), he then went on to say how he is going to give me a warning but do be aware if I am defected I will be sent to regency for a full inspection.

So.... I pulled the tint off, I've always known it was illegal but stupidly chose to leave it on so really its my own fault.

It doesn't look so bad, the only real reason I had it tinted in the first place was to stop the side of my face being burnt on the way home in peak hour traffic, For $100 I can get the 70% clear 99% UV film on the front windows so hopefully this will do the trick.. being 99% UV rated I can't see why not.

Now that I'm aware its unbelievable how many cars have tint thats too dark on the front windows, I'd say a good 80% of cars I saw on the way home all had tint that was too dark. :D

GTSTD1,

A quick question, for a defect such as tint I was under the impression minor defects can simply be cleared at the local police station? Or is this IF you live outside of the CBD by 40km's?

I remember reading some where regarding living 40km's outside of the CBD allowing you to clear some defects at the local police station.

I think its also time to throw another muffler in, my car is quiet but I still think its too loud; I might head down the local police station and ask for their opinion if its considered defectable. By all means as I said it is quiet but 90db isn't very loud.

I did ask D&T for a legal sounding exhaust when I purchased the car but I think he said it was just to shut me up. :D

^^ I reckon tinting is a joke on some cars. I've seen some OEM tints which are bordering 20%, especially on some euro imports. You can't even see inside! I'd like to see a cop sending a new Audi to regency lol.

Get this though, I went through regency with no tint on my windows and I asked the inspector to throw his meter on 'em. The reading was ~78% IIRC. So I can't tint my front passenger windows at all. How ridiculous. Its the stock, normal glass!!

I've cleaned the windows all up and it still looks like they have an ever ever so slight tint. I can see this with the door open.

I'll have to get it checked as if they do have std tint the right side of my face will be burnt come summer again. :)

All I want is the UV cut, the tint place said the lightest tint they have is 70%.

LOL Yeh in my old car 89 525 BMW i got 5% put on the rear windows and 20% on the drivers and passenger windows, NEVER got pulled over + i had 18's and lowered, just goes to show the imports ARE targeted, because as u said alot of Euros have hell dark tint!

I've had the car around 4.5years now and its never had an issue with the window tint...

BUT this day I was definitely picked out of a bunch.

But life goes on, its to be expected with boy racers owning these type of cars and flying around, crashing resulting in front wheels being smashed backwards as a result being charged with dangerous driving or what ever it is and being defected for exhaust noise, also being caught doing burnouts with bald tyres in a car park or where ever it was.. You know who you are. :(

My previous car was a VS 5ltr 5speed, lowered, mags, loud exhaust. That got more attention than any of the cars I've owned.

Today was just my day and thankfully it turned out ok. :)

Today was defect day... It was interesting to note they were defecting a lot of the older cars. yes I watched while the other half went in to marion. :)

Ahh well it will get my arse in to tidying a few things up on it.

defect day 4 sure!

yesteday left my office on payneham rd around 3:50pm to head into town 4 a quick meeting b4 i head off 2 marion. i decided 2 get some subway from parade, so go my food and proceeded down the parade to town. go left @ flinders street, and i c a cop stopped at the lights on the other side of the rd heading 2 norwood.

im driving normal speed because its middle of the day and i have plenty of time. i get to the next set of lights and they go yellow so i stop. i look behind me and what do i c, the cop did a u-turn and came up behind me. i could c him talking on his radio. the fun begins.

Lights go green, cop is on my ass, lets me drive a bit down and then turns on the lights. pulls me over. comes up 2 my window slowly like i was some criminal (mind u i was wearing a suit, so he might have thought i was mafia) and goes 2 me, is this your vehicle sir? i got yes, thats y im driving it. (straight away i could tell this guy was a prick (no offence 2 GTSTD1)) he goes to me, this car came up as unregistered, please step out of the vehicle with your licence. im like for fks sake, u gota b kidding me, out of all the cars driving around, he had 2 check my registration..hmm wounder y? IMPORT!!!

anyway starts talking away on his radio, told him car was under my business name etc etc, told me 2 go to regency and get it checked because it was comming up as blank..... then he decided to have a look at the car, complained about the ebc and then looked at my pod etc.

biggest waste of time. i got his badge number and i will make a complaint.

Well he was obviously talking out his ass if he let you still drive the car, cos you wouldn't have been allowed to move the car until it had been rego'd.

Definatly ring them up and don't go down there, knowing them they would prob do you in the carpark......lol

Vange if it is still registered then send a formal complaint to his Police Station and damand a letter of appology from him saying sorry for you bieng late to your meeting(even if you didn't have a meeting), and also mention that if there wasn't a reply to this letter, you would be speaking to someone of a higher rank!
