Apexi Power FC...Again???

Recommended Posts

Guest RedLineGTR

This is for one of my mates,

He has a r33 auto gtst,

i am still not convinced that the power fc will not work on a auto i havent seen any proof (hardcopy) except for what people have said, no details on apexi sites usa and japan (translated) nor in the vechicle compatibilty list. I know people say that the auto trans need the stock ecu to get some details, would anyone be willing to plug there power fc (with min mods) in my auto, i assume that the auto trans would just not work, but everything else would be fine. Anyone shedding some light on the issue, i have heard there might be some development on the auto soarers but nothing decent.

Thanks

Hi RedLineGTR, what I know.....

* The Auto ECU gets the road speed signal from the Engine ECU

* The Auto ECU gets the engine RPM signal from the Engine ECU

* The Auto ECU gets the throttle position signal from the Engine ECU

* The Auto ECU gets the engine load signal (fuel map position) from the Engine ECU

* The Auto ECU gets the engine water temperature signal from the Engine ECU

* These output signals are not in the same format as the input signals from the sensors themselves

* A Power FC does not output these signals

What I can deduce from what I know....

- The Auto ECU will not know the road speed, therefore it will not know when to change gear

- The Auto ECU will not know the engine RPM, therefore it will not know when to change gear

- The Auto ECU will not know the engine loading, therefore it will not know when to lock up the torque converter

- The Auto ECU will not know when the engine is not up to operating temperature (too cold), therefore it will allow too high an engine RPM.

Sorry, but I have no knowledge of how a Microtech or a Link sends their output signals to the Auto ECU.

What I would do...........

I would wire up the Power FC as a piggy back, such that it and the standard ECU received all of the input signals. But only the PFC ran the engine (ignition, injectors and boost control). That way the Auto ECU would still get the correct output signals from the Standard Engine ECU and the PFC would control the engine.

Hope that makes sense.
