jaik
Gday, Trying to remove the casing off my RB20 gearbox and Im struggling. Ive gotten the back part of the casing to move but its clearly getting stuck on the part where the shifter goes into. Looking at the attached picture, do you have to bash out a pin that holds it together? Well Ive bashed a Pin out but it still wont come off, so I cannot slide the casing off. Any help greatly appreciated! JK take that pin right out with a small nail or punch and the shaft slides off easy as done it many times so i can vouch for it working perfectly Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/123684-taking-rb20-box-apart-removing-shifter-bit-to-slide-casing-off/#findComment-2284299 Share on other sites
jaik
I have managed to punch a pin out but it wont budge still. There appears to be a small sleave lining the inside of the cast piece that seams to still hold it onto the rod. I have only managed to punch that out by about 1mm. Its quite hard. Is it normal to have to punch out 2 things, or should they have both come out the first time? png godzilla
i've only done a GTR also, like cruiseliner when you say you knocked "a" pin out............maybe you have only knocked out the inner roll pin, the roll pins are (well on the GTR anyway) double roll pins, one inside the other, so you need to use a punch big enough to knock the outer roll pin sleeve out, the inner just comes out with it. if this is the case just get the right sized punch & knock that outer roll pin sleeve out & it should just slide off. i assume this is the case because i cant remember the cast selector bit having a sleeve inside laterally with the shaft. You will find that there is actually TWO pins, if you removed one, (small one ) it actually sits inside another larger one. You have to remove it as well. I think the small on through the center of the larger one is meant to stop the larger one losing tension and falling out. turboedsloth
by the looks of the photo you've only knocked one pin out. they're double pinned as said above. i dont know if u already know this but if your gona take the sliding hubs off make sure you mark which way they come off in case they fall apart and you dont see how they come off. these boxes are piece of piss to pull apart Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/123684-taking-rb20-box-apart-removing-shifter-bit-to-slide-casing-off/#findComment-2287285 Share on other sites
