split dump is the way to go. Causes less turbulance in exhaust gas flow when the exhausts from the gate re-enter and therefor improving flow/velocity. Most of the split dump pipes are calculated correctly with length etc to minimize turbulance and maximize flow and velocity, which is what you want.

Cheers :O

I currently wondering if going split dump/front is worth the $350 odd dollars over my 3" dump/front at the moment

alirght then. this is exactly what i was looking for.

sorry to hijack the thread but i didnt want to start another as

the old codgers always say "use the search button ya wipper snapper!!!!" :P

and besides, its old and i think your question has been answered.

now for my question: i have recently bought a turbo setup that came with a dump/ front pipe and a screamer pipe (i assume, cos i havent been told, that a screamer pipe is when the waste gate releases the exhaust gasses into the atmosphere, rather than it going back to the exhaust- correct me if im wrong or aknowledge it if im right!).

questions: when you buy a split dump pipe, does it connect straight to the wastegate or does it require some variety of modification? i believe its a 38mm. and there is no factory printing on it, but the bloke i bought it off said it was a sard. do i believe him?

EDIT: what does a screamer pipe actualy sound like? a louder spool up?

cheers.

james.

If you want noise get a screamer pipe!!

To be honest im getting my external gate's (turbosmart 38mm on rb20) screamer pipe plumbed back into the exhaust, its just too loud for street use.... good for track days though. It doesn't increase spooling noise you only hear a screamer when the wastegate comes fully open on full boost.

Well different ppl have diff opinions, if a cop hears it your 100% screwed for a defect! That video doesn't seem to show how loud it is, although its different with different cars/motors of course.

I love a nice exhaust note but the screamer is abit much for me personally, ill have a flange put on it and plumb it back for street use and disconnect it if i go to the drags or track days or want some noise on the street occasionally, best of both worlds lol!

Not loud : you have to be kidding. At about 11-13 second through it you can hear a std skyline going past you cant tell me its not loud

was yours a standard turbo? or was it one of the ones with the split section for the wastegate like the HKS ones?

Standard turbo ....... then later standard VG30 turbo at 1bar.

Angry, how did you lose power with more flow, and gain power by creating more turbulence?

lost power basically coz of the excessive leak it had .... had the splitter i made in between.. but not enough.

by plumbing it up .. it gave the exhaust a more positive direct for flow .... screamer helping scavenge the air more from the back of the turbo while the gate opens......

it was holding 1bar right to red line till it spat the front oil seal about a month ago and did some ringland damage as well, i believe .... hasnt seen the street since unfortunately. new motor soon though.
