At the end of the day WRX will beat a Skylines GTST at the lights if they launch right.

You cant beat a 4wd launch.

and most wont launch right coz they r middle aged business men who just bought the wrx coz its a cult figure. I used to race i with fmic/exhaust more boost after work nearly everyday down westall road and he would pull away 1st gear but middle of second i was on him then the traffic would stop our fun.;)

yeah until the punk Desilva copper pull syou over and defects you for gay bs.

Well to blow a fair number of WRX's away you need to spend less than $2k in mods (assuming you already have a cat-back exhaust).

See my "13.4sec 1/4mile..." thread for the mods list.

I have had plenty of runs with well launched WRX's. On the street I can launch better than the drag strip. In some cases the WRX only has a bonnet length in front over the first 60ft, after that they get burnt and appear as distant rear vision images well before the 400m mark.

The best indication of a car's "real" power is seeing its terminal speed. A 4WD car will quite often run a good time but will have a low terminal when compareed to a RWD (or esp. FWD) car running similar times. Doesn't mean it's slow of course, but it's an interesting point, and I've found cars with similar terminals are fairly similar in acceleration once off the line (eg an 11 sec car that runs 115mph would accelerate 'roughly' the same as a 12 sec car also doing 115mph). Not 100% accurate but a good rule of thumb in my experience.

Anyway, what kind of terminals do WRXs run? Normally a mid 90's mph, compared to most guys on here with stockish 33s that run high 99s to mid 100s. I've raced a mate's twin turbo S6 RX7 (3" exhaust, a bit of boost) in my GTS25t and it was dead level - I actually started to gain on him over about 160, but he would undoubtedly run a better time than me.

Slightly off topic, but I had a guy in a WRX try to race me on the bike one day. I pulled away easily in sixth gear, dashing my hopes of it being a worked WRX, and he came back again, so back to second and fan the clutch, take off on the back wheel and wave :D After pulling something like 20 carlengths and backing off, I still got the 150km/h flyby, and he didn't look happy :D

what if the wrx on the topic is a brand new MY03 ??

0-100kmh : 5.7 sec factory claimed... (heard the time was done at calder park in victoria...)

my friend bought a new white MY03... looks good , feels comfotable .... handling around the corner was good too... (i didn't get to drive the thing but got a ride in it...)

in my opinion, this thing will be very hard to beat if ur gtst doesn't have lotta horses under the bonnet.... :)

stock for stock i think it'd be safe to assume the wrx would beat a gtst with a good launch. power to weight ratio and gear ratio's will do that.

as mentioned here, many wrx drivers fear big rev launches (to get the most out of awd) for fear of breaking their gearbox. I have required a gearbox rebuild once.

i think at the end of the day what could beat what comes down to how many dollars you put into the car, who has the most mods, who is the better driver or if the wrx driver is prepared to do a decent launch...

just another unbiased fact, my wrx was never beaten by any skyline, modded or stock.
