The story goes that the oil line to the remote filter broke, unbeknown to the driver wich lead to the exhaust cam ceasing, and eventually the timing belt snapping, and we all know what happens then. I have some questions regarding what to salvage from the engine.

Should I be worried about the condition of the bottom end if it was let to run without oil to the point that the Exhaust cam ceased?

will I be able to re-use the East Bear 1.8mm aftermarket head gasket?

If I can salvage the bottom end, the new head will require decking as well I guess?

I'm unsure if any other internal work has been carried out.. Possible RB26 rods and crank :

I was shown a forged piston the other from an rb25 that had seized the exhaust cam.

It had two valve sized holes punched clean through it.

You should be able to salvage some parts such as block, crank and rods

but there is next to no chance the bottom end won't need a full rebuild with new pistons, bearings and a crank grind.

Your cheapest way out would be a second hand motor.

Too hard to guess. My best suggestion is to pull it apart and have a look. Then you will know for sure. Metal head gaskets can be reused.

:( cheers :)
