Here is an interesting disscusion I found online about the toyota CT26 turbo.

Just wondering is there are ant people with indepth turbo knowledge that might be able to read it and say if what is being said is true.

If it is then a CT26 Supra turbo might be a geed upgrade for a standard SR or CA or as the CT26 has a ceramic wheel like the skyline the same theory might be able to be applied to that turbo also.

I have been trying to find info on putting the skyline turbo on smaller engines and the boost that can be run before the turbine wheel falls off.?

Just let me know what you think.

Hi Arron, most of what is written on the CT26 is OK. But they are missing two points;

Heat kills ceramic turbines just as quickly as boost.

So you can have a turbine that lasts for years at 12 psi gently driven on the street or one that last 5 laps at 10 psi on the track. There are two extremes and I (nor any else for that matter) know which end of the scale your requimements are at.

The second issue is they have totally ignored the effect of more boost on the engine. I can have a turbo that flows 300 bhp at 1 bar or another that flows 300 bhp at 1.3 bar. The 1.3 bar one is obviously harder on the engine (as well as itself) than the 1 bar one.

My preferred upgrade for a SR20 or CA18 is the R33 RB25DET turbo which in standard form at 10 psi will give 25 rwkw more than the standard turbo. You obviously need to have the support around the turbo, eg; fuel flow, air inlet, intercooler and exhaust, to sustain this power level.

going to get a bigger fuel pump

have just got another front mount intercooler (third one..... its a long story)

just looking for a bigger turbo, I really only need / want around 200rwkw.

Hi Arron Sutton, I would go hi flowed RB25DET turbo, make a nice 200 rwkw which is the limit for the internals (rods and pistons) on a CA18. Cost about $2200

Or a new Garrett GT28 with these specs for $2300:-

0.64a/r Turbine Housing (5 bolt outlet)

0.60a/r Compressor Housing (TB03)

Watercooled Centre

60 Trim Compressor Wheel

62 Trim Turbine Wheel

Integral Wastegate
