You read my mind! I was thinking EXACTLY the same thing when I saw that..

I've got sparco's in my car and they would still wobble enough to make it really annoying to watch on video...

I might give it a go though... It's only $15 worth of aluminium and bolts. It may just work?

think of a way to cover the area effectively from welding splatter and i will weld up a couple for the shit bars in the back...

then can make up an adapter that attaches to that bar that can slide accross the m moujnt the camear where ever you want..

ok guys ive got half of my camera mounting system sorted. I've decided to stick with the bar across the "Holy cow" handles in the back seat.

I'm getting one fabricated out of 1in chome moly tube. For people who arent familiar with it, it's REALLY strong and rigid (good for stopping camera wobble), very light and fairly cheap.

As for mounting the camera to the bar, I've go some of these camera mounting gizmo's from http://www.gpsoz.com.au/ram.htm. They're a ball/mount type system that is adjustable through just about any direction you can think of and they are completely rigid when tightened up.. Like rigid to the point that I almost broke the camera before I could even move the joint when it's tightened up, and the joint still didnt move at all! They are seriously strong.. All up the bits cost me $60, but retail is $77 for what's pictured below. You can get them for heaps cheaper if you order from the US too..

The good thing about these is the amount of range of movement you can get. You can have it sitting further back looking forward at the road, or have the camera just peering over your shoulder so it can see the dash too.. Thats the only reason I went away from the static bar idea. no adjustment for the camera angles!

I'll post up some pics once I've gotten the chrome moly bar made up that you can mount the bracket to..

I expect the bar to cost about $100 to get fabricated, so total outlay for the camera mount will be about $160..

We use to mount are in the middle of the parcel shelf and worked really well and made up our own bracket out of metal got wicked footage or cruises and doesnt seem to mind the bumps and bolt it on were the child restraint bolts are or make a new hole I can bring our design to the photo shoot primordial if you want to see :whistling:

(I reckon I could find it we havent used it in awhile)

I was only worried with the fact that I've got chunky sparco seats that might block the view a bit. But i guess you would have the same thing with the GTR seats, so if you think it's the way to go it sounds like a good idea! I'll flag you down at the shoot :whistling:

Yep not a problem its nothing flash just a bit of metal really with some holes in it but works well I will go and try to find it now for you

We always had a pretty good view out of the lense but its all about fine tuning

The idea for the slivias is good.because the seats allow them to be mounted like that..

I found that you see to much of the dash at seat height,hence why mine is closer to the roof.Remove the rear veiw mirror if it is that high,cause it is virtually right in the centre of the picture.The seat really needs to be anchored to somthing,to stop shakeing occuring in the pic,whilst driving.

Another thing that could be done to my camera mount is slide for side adjustability..

Photo of my previous effort below. The trouble I found when seeking the best mounting location was ensuring I was capturing clear full vision over the shoulder (which dictated locating the camera high and rear....maybe why others have gone to the parcel shelf) I found the monopod was great for allowing me to not only easily adjust the camera height but also the camera pointed angle. I'd propose maybe some sort of combination of ideas with the headrest mount and a monopod?? The monopod could also extend to the floor to minimise any seat vibration or flex. Anyway .....just another idea.

Craig - How did your footage go with that set up for the skid pan day?Craved was saying there could have been some movement, any?

I use a suction type mounted to the rear window - although my camera is mega old and big its on a 30degree angle :)

Yeah but it doesnt work in the GTR only other cars but will bring it along getting it back this weekend ;)

      Ok glad you clarified on the frenchy’s options , I was worried about if my oem hoses would fit the new compressor or not if I just bought the bracket/compressor kit ,  didn’t realize they also sold a larger full conversion kit. Hmm may just go oem in that case then to make it easy only because I plan to sell this car to upgrade to a 32 GTR or 34 GTT.

      Right, here's a video of the basic operation at least.  This is what you can expect day to day when you turn the car on and it boots from standby.  The only thing from a media point of view I haven't gotten working is for it to autoplay plexamp when it turns on from standby (it works from cold boot) but that's more of a plexamp problem as it will autoplay other music players.  Also attached is my one stray cable.  It's part of the screen's wiring adapters but there's just nowhere for it to go in my car.  I've just now done a bit of research and found a matching port on a 2010-2014 head unit with BOSE.  Mine has no BOSE so that's that case pretty much closed I think.  Plugging in the Infiniti AC panel basically did nothing for me, so that's a dead end as well.  Next port of call is to mess with this CANBUS module and see what I can find from it.  I found this resource containing the DBC files for a 2010+ G37 : https://github.com/icecube45/Dash_InfinitiG37/blob/master/InfinitiG37.dbc I'll now have something to go from when I try to extract my CANBUS data so I can see if the HVAC Mode, Fan Speed, Temperature, etc. match and also the gear shifter position.  It's a pretty big assumption that it's just mismatched CAN signals but considering all the devices in the CAN network are talking to each other (AC can be fully adjusted just with no info on screen) it might be a safe one.  I will report back WhatsApp Video 2025-02-26 at 12.49.10.mp4

      Sorry Duncan, I didn't get a notification for the replies.  Thanks for responding!  It's a full Android device, but does allow you to use CarPlay/AA as well.  This is the one I bought from NaviRS on AliExpress: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006368602668.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.111.59aa1802JDzQ0E - the 2K 8G-256G CAM variant but it seems to have gone up by £170 since I bought it!  My purchase was ￡307.14.   It's not the fastest thing in the world but performs perfectly adequately.  It stays on standby unless I disconnect the battery and let it power down, then it's just a fairly standard Android bootup time from cold.  The DSP Equaliser is very nice and made the standard stereo system sound pretty decent compared to the stock screen.  Perhaps I can take a video of it when I get a sec. It *allegedly* supports the reverse camera, but I'm yet to get that working.  It has options for reverse cam (a camera unit can be bought separately) or 360 cameras (also bought separately).  To be fair it doesn't seem to detect that the shifter was put into reverse but I'm working on a theory about this as well.  At the moment I'm going without which is a bit annoying considering the car is an absolute canal barge but so far I haven't caused any damage I'll grab a picture of the wire I'm missing later today when I can get outside.  My theory, by the by, is that not only is the head unit different, but the CANBUS network has different signals for the different years.  I think this because I have a spare AC panel from a newer Infiniti G37 (as opposed to my Nissan panel) which wouldn't control anything except the volume when I had it wired up with the stock system.  I'm going to throw it back in and see if the screen will respond to it.  I've just ordered an arduino CANBUS module so I can have a look at the signals going around the car and see if I can spot anything.  I'm thinking if I can work out what it's expecting vs what it's getting I might be able to translate and relay the signal back but so far just a theory anyway.
