Thanks heaps stagefumer if you could get me some part numbers for gasket kit/ head gasket, piston rings, main bearings and big end bearings that would be awesome!

I don't care if they have to come from NZ I just wish someone here would help me.

Hmmmm, hoping mine is an early L20 will check engine number may give me some clue.

Thanks again

Dwayne

Not a problem sorry i forgot today. I was in zombie mode all day :P (you know how it is)

I wouldnt worry to much about the rod strenth... They can still support the power your require. Hell mine has done 400,000k and making 130+rwkw. Still not a problem. Either way dont take my word on these dates as fact, im trying to remember what i read about the rods Something from 1979 - 1982 and 1982 - 1985.

No worries man I know how it gets haha..

I got a mate of mine who works at repco over here to do a massive search on the database but he couldn't find anything, told me to come back and see him when i get your part numbers.....

Oh yeah for those who haven't seen my car before, this is what it looked like around a year and a ahalf ago when she was all sweet

Cheers

Dwayne

YEP...

Stroking/boring a L20Aet is definitly possible, te japs did it a fair bit, Im pretty sure you can get the L24 crank, early rods & pistons and get everything balanced nicely.

but for alot less... im mean ALOT less, get a L28e from a 280zx and get that freshened up (head gasket, timing kit, head clean up) and then drop that in.... depending on oil pickup location some minor mods may be needed, im unsure on the car you have if the sump is rear bowl or front bowl...

Ghostrider and stage fumer are ones to contact on whats best in that area.

and start a new thread, post ya pics up fro al to see, be prepared for some offers to buy it too...

    • HKS trigger kit should be very easy to integrate with a Link. It's a 36-2 crank trigger. Hard part is finding the motivation to take off the timing belt and everything on the front of the engine to install it. You also need to cut out a hole in the oil pump housing so the sensor can read the trigger wheel. Changing out the cam sensor for a 24 tooth setup is probably good enough but as others have mentioned depending on what underlying assumptions are changed it becomes more of a problem. Reading the crank state off of the cam is an abstraction that works in the general case, but if you have an edge case it makes less and less sense. There is a GTX2860 gen 2 that can take a compact 5 bolt housing so it's direct bolt on but I'm not 100% sure of what's involved. Peak compressor efficiency drops off a bit on these turbos vs -5s, 77% vs 73% but you get way, way wider region of operation. The -5s have a really strange surge line in their compressor map that is all over the place. If you think the hot side on the -5s aren't open enough you can try the Tomei T550B turbos which a local tuner seems to be happy with:
