Old Sydney Tracks Part Ii

As per last weeks Catalina post, for those interested here's some pics of Maroubra's old Olympia Speedway. The track has long since been replaced by cheap (at the time) housing as can be seen in the current satalite pic

Didnt know there was a speedway there. WOW!

Its all housing commison or something there now.

Yeah fun but silly in an open topped car with no harness! It was only open for less than a decade I believe yet many people died there.

Check out the spectators with their legs hanging onto the track!

Yeah its all housing commission now. I used to live in Byng St just at the North end of the satelite pic

I think Garlick is buried at the old Bondi Graveyard

I believe there was another Speedway where the SFS carpark is now in the same era as the Maroubra track

Late 20's & early 30's mostly. Not sure when it was finally bulldosed though
