Hey there guys

Just got the car registered for the first time in Aus. When trying to put the number plates on I realised they were too wide to fit into the gaps in the bars. These plates are only temporary till my personalised ones arrive. Is there any way to fit them without bending them or is there a new bracket i need to buy to fit them. I am having this problem at the front and back.

Thanks

I have seen people use spacers. For the front, anyway.

It's just a tube about an inch long, and the bolts that hold the plates on seem to be a bit longer than this. You could always buy longer bolts anyway.

My rear one fits nicely, but I just bent the front one about 2cm on both sides, to a 45 degree angle, and it sits inside the hole just nicely. Any more bending than this, i'm sure would constitute a "pedestrian hazard" and you could be defected for it. (or not pass rego)

my solution is use and offset bracket on the front to mount the numberplate on the side. on the rear i trimmed about 5mm each side, 8mm max. and it fits perfectly and looks to my eye much nicer than bent ones.

when i get my new rear bumper.. im gonna get them to cut slots out on the side of the backing plate so the plate can be slid in through the side .... means you wont have to cut or bend the plate, however if i ever need to take the plate of for some reason or another, the whole rearbar will have to come off...

i cut the sides off mine. Im pretty sure as long as the numbers/letters arent obscured its fine (was in the past anyway). Mine originally had washer like things on the front plate that looked shocking and on the back plates it had a extra bar made up and was mounted down and to the side. Just cut the sides off them both and they'll fit fine.. Dunno about the dodgyness factor but i havnt had any 1 defect me so

I also had to cut the sides off my number plates after I had my new front bumper installed (std series 2 R33)....Making up brackets to install it at such an offset (over 1") seemed ridiculous. None of the actual letters or numbers on the plate have been affected, so I'm sure it's fine....most number plate surrounds obscure the same amount.

My previous car (R32 GTS-t) has this same thing done by the previous owner/importer and I never had any questions about it in over two years of driving....
