Well I finally bit the bullet and went for a brand new set of Tein Super Streets (jap spec) not the Fulcrum ones....and they got fitted today.

Those of you who know me know my dillema was choosing between the Bilstein group buy kit and the Super Streets. All I wanted was to lower the car, improve handling, retain ride comfort and most importantly, be able to get into my stupid driveway into my garage without destroying my front lip.

Well I jumped in my car after it was installed feeling very nervous about driving away and feeling every bone shattering bump on the road (as are notorious with Tein coilovers) and to my surprise it was bloody awesome!!!!

Car was lowered by around 30mm front n rear, handling was vastly improved by the reduction of body roll, I purposely ran over a pot hole to test it out and it absorbed it better than my stock suspension and to my relief I got into my garage without a scrape! (it was really a miracle...see below pic for before pics and how much clearance I had to get into my driveway)

The damper settings were dialled to the softest at the moment and to be quite honest, the ride comfort has not been compromised at all, if anything it was slightly firmer and absorbed the bumps better than the stock suspension.

I've had JIC coilovers in my Silvia before and I would get a sore back after driving it everytime, they were crap! so I was quite hesitant to ever go back to coilovers. So to end it all, those of you who are contemplating this option, I say go for it, you won't be disappointed. I'm so happy I can't wipe this silly smile off my face! :D

Please don't turn this into a Bilstein vs Tein bash...I have no doubt the Bilsteins are great as well.

Cheers,

Jon

I got Super street Aust spec to. love the EFDC. makes adjusting much more convenient for cars like mine used as street/ strip/ track etc.

p.s. any idea of the spring rates on the jap spec? just curious really.

  • 1 month later...

nice review dude. I'm looking at getting some new ones for my ceffy off a mate who is in Japan at the momment (my current JICs are on the way out). Is it just the spring rates that are different in the Aust/Jap variants?
