Just a quick question, I'm soon getting adjustable cam gears and raising the boost to 1 bar to my otherwise stock R33 GTR (except full exhaust and pod filters).

Just wondering whether a larger intercooler will be a worthwhile upgrade or is the standard one good enough for the 1 bar boost on stock turbos. Maybe due to the decreased air temps can you run a little more boost (with bigger cooler) or is 1 bar the limit on these turbos.

I have sourced one for a very good price so I'm debating whether to buy it or spend my money on other mods.

The intercooler is a Trust 600x300x100 (4 inch core thickness) and is around the 1k mark for those wondering.

Any suggestions.......

Hi JAGR33, the standard R33 GTR intercooler has been good for us on a number of engines up to 300rwkw. It starts to have restriction issues at airflows over that.

There are two issues with the ceramic turbines, one is excessive boost (everyone talks about that). The other (not discussed as often) is heat. I have seen many turbos fail at what would be considered safe boost levels. This is due to heat build up from excessive exhaust temperatures as a result of increased power outputs. Split pulse dumps and free flowing exhaust help here, way more than intercooler upgrades.

Hope that helps.

Id get the dump pipes from the turbo and good front pipes first if you dont allready have these. If you dont have any other mods planned you its probably not worth changing the cooler but if you are going to change the turbos later then it is a deffinate upgrade.
