I'd firstly like to say im a proud owner of a R32 GTR

Anyway ive only had the car since saturday and its already got a problem, it occasionally stalls when you come to a stop and if it doesnt stall the rpms stay at 1000 during take off and for around 5 seconds after taking off even at 100% throttle.

So we took it down to black toyota and they had a look over it and changed the fuel filter and said the fuel that came out was black and the filter was extremely clogged...(has been in transit from japan for like 2 months and hasnt been driven, still had some old fuel in it) it was ok on the drive home but went out in it before and after 2 minutes of driving the car would jerk going down the road at 2500rpms.

Just wondering if i should get the fuel lines flushed and injectors cleaned to and maybe drain the fuel and put new stuff in instead of the mixture it has now...could still have dirt in it or watever.

Im not sure on wat it could be and its killing me having the car for only 5 days now and most of the time its been in the garage... any advice on wat it would be greatly appreciated.

Ps: Mods include RS Racing Sports cat back exhaust, apexi pod filters, turbo timer, hks boost controller hooked up but no hand controller, some other greddy electronics thing under the dash unplugged, its next to the boost controller near the intake manifold if anyone has a idea of wat that is too.

Cheers

David

Bad fuel? Flush your fuel tank (change Fuel pump filter), clean & flow test your injectors. And also clean the fuel rail of you can. Is it running any Engine management? If so check the tune before driving anywhere!. Check A/F ratio and boost levels, people have killed motors by not doing this.

Well i was wondering if its something simple i could do but it is booked in to see this mechanic on the gold coast, apparently the only qualified guy in qld?! yeh i thought it could be a/f ratio as the hks hand controller for boost controller is missing only the other stuff is there...maybe running lower then factory boost but still stock fuel amount? this guy is going to have a look over the whole car and the place i bought it from is going to pay for the other half wit the warranty company as its within the first month / 1000 km's :)

its been in transit for 2 months so i guess its still tuned for japan standards, as far as the engine management i dont think so the mods i listed are the only ones im aware off although the dealer i bought it from said the only mods were the tyres...seems apexi pods and 3.5" cat back exhausts are standard now a days...we were going to drive it down to toowoomba then to the gold coast from where i live...thats like a 4 hr drive all up so ill get em to tow it i guess as there paying for everything..

Thanks for your advice

Hand controller for a boost controller? Are you sure its not for an aftermarket ECU? I don’t think that there is only one mechanic in QLD to deal with skylines... I'm sure a lot of people can recommend plenty of places. But I still highly recommend flushing your fuel system and changing your plugs and doing a full service on the car. Most of the cars that are directly imported are dirty and need a full service from top to bottom. A lot of import dealers actually clean & flow test the injectors, timing belt ect. It’s a big part of compliance.

you know the hks evc electronic boost controllers? the hand controller the sits inside for you to changed from high to low boost. well that sits inside your car n the plug runs into your engine bay and plugs into the hks module and that has vacuums lines etc that work your boost.

apparently hes the only qualified guy....maybe the only shop the warranty company will let us get our work done??

yeh this place i bought the car from should have done all that but do you recon i would need to tow it down to the gold coast or drive it? cause thats a 4hr drive and alot of things could go wrong in that time

I would defiantly get them to pay for a tow up there. Don’t drive the car! You may cause more damage. Make sure they get on it if it’s under warranty and resolve this issue. That’s the easiest and best option you have. Good luck with it all mate.

Cheers,

Alex

thanks for your help alex, haha ill get the mechanic to replace anything and send the shop the bill. I thought this sort of stuff is normally fixed when the dealership gets it >_<

well hopefully it'll be ready on the weekend and should be ready to be unleashed :D probably take it to the strip to see what times i can do aswell and get a dyno done at the shop should be fun not having to pay for these repairs

Yes this should be done while you’re complying the car. Defiantly put it on the dyno to see how it’s running before you go do a 1/4mile run. You don’t want stuff going wrong! The workshop will tell you if all A/F ratios are in tact and things like timing and make sure its not pining. Putting a knock sensor would be also handy wile you’re doing the run. A tune up is defiantly needed here.

Hope it all goes well.

Cheers,

Alex.

  • 3 weeks later...

sounds like screwing up AFMs mine are doin them again. ther is a link on the site bout the afm. internally the solder cracks and doesnt have a good connection. im currently trying to find the link on how to fix it. does anyone know the link. i bet its the same problem with ur GTR.

What BOV's are you using?

Stock items?

If the BOV's are stock, just clean the AFM's with a bit of carby cleaner and then see how it performs

Failing that, you have a leak somewhere along the cooler piping, small leak at that, but symptoms dont point to a leak

    • Well, do ya, punk? Seriously though, let's fu<king go! The colour and kit looks amazing on the car. Do you have any shots from the rear? I don't quite follow how the model came around. You bought the white kit and he modified it to match your car? Looks nuts either way!
    • So my car is finally back from paint! This took an absolutely insane amount of work and should get it's own build thread - but I didn't build it. It was completed by Troy @ https://scalekustoms.com.au/ I originally bought the AOSHIMA URAS Type R kit while I was in Japan, it's supposed to look like this when assembled: Now, I thought that was cool enough until I opened the box with Dismay, as there's no way I could possibly have completed it. The thing is 1/24 and has details down to the steering wheel horn button, which is a 2mm diameter sticker. I originally wondered if someone could make it at all, as is - But then things got a little carried away. It's worth noting that the model does not have an openable bonne, let alone engine bay, OR an openable boot. - Troy has worked wonders with 3D printer and presumably better eyes than I will ever have. My photos suck, so I will post up some of his in-progress ones he sent to me during the way. Unsuprisingly, he is very detailed. A lot of these are out of order. But he: 1) Made a LS engine and an engine bay appear out of thin air 2) Made the bonnet removable 3) Printed the rims I will buy in the future (or any rim you want) 4) Printed and added the wing that is going on 5) Tinted my back windows as this is what my car has IRL (privacy glass) 6) Added a licence plate. 7) Somehow did the interior 8) 3D Printed my actual seats 9) Made the exhaust under the car connect even though this is likely invisible. 10) Created a boot with my fking battery box, power steering reservoir, subwoofer and toolboxes back there. To say it's insane is an understatement. And I f**ked it all up because when I was re-mounting the wing (it broke in transit) I spilled glue everywhere and ripped paint up and Gregged the rear half of the car. Which about makes sense. Also, this arrived on the same day. Quite the change from: I spent 16 hours per day over the next 3 days pre-christmas putting the interior back together, mounting lip, fixing various bodykit problems with window mouldings, etc. and servicing, rebuilding my 370z brakes to go on the car 'soon', messing with heights to check clearances for new wheels, etc. I also had a foray into mounting wiper-mounted washer jets which was an absolute disaster. The bodyshop has welded (and painted) over the stock jet locations for reasons unknown to everybody (i.e they forgot) I also wanted to wire in the oil pressure sensor on Christmas Eve which was a BAD IDEA. You do not know terror like pulling your ECU apart, pinning in half-fitting pins that aren't the right ones, but trying anyway because it's Christmas eve, putting your ECU back together and having a no-start condition with a fuel pump not priming. Then you undo all your work and the fuel pump still doesn't prime. So after all that terror and horror and pain and tedious disassembly, the issue was the relay in the boot which seems to have died/stuck when I was turning the car off and on about 700 times testing shitty washer jets. I also re-wired the fuel pump power plug which fell apart in my hands. I am very happy I had 3 extra pre-made ones from a few posts/last Christmas's breakdown. https://bluewireautomotive.com/products/10-x-pcm-ecm-ecu-terminals I have put an order for these in, so I can actually add the pins to the ECU properly. The commodore ECU does not have the pins for Oil Pressure via ODB2. However the ECU can support it if you create the pins and wire them in. So for round two, and somehow attempting to route that into the engine bay through my impossible engine bay grommet is a fight for another day. It's 40C in Melbourne tomorrow, I am half tempted to drive the car with the aircon on to deliver presents to my partner's family and see if it helps with the overheating-on-40C-days-in-traffic-with-aircon-on-only issue that the vents were intended to solve. Do I feel lucky?
    • Yes, while being... strictly unnecessary. Tuning is a bit like quantum physics. You don't need to understand what Schroedinger's equation actually means. You just need to run the computation and accept the answers. With tuning, you just push page up/down until the exhaust tells you that you've got the fuel right. The VE can stay hidden behind the curtain like the Wizard of Oz and you'll never need to know what he looked like.
    • The second part yes, the first part about easy VE calculation is something I've seen a few people talk about online.
    • You 100% could do that, would save money on a gym membership lol. But yeah, getting a cordless orbital sander will feel priceless coming from doing it manually.  Good luck with it mate
