Cubes had luck been out to lunch would plan B have been an R33 PFC ?

I still don't have one or the Skyline to plug into it so maybe an R33 PFC would be the go . Actually since it will start out as a std GTST and end up with an RB26 head (not the RB20) would the R33 PFC work out cheaper ? The head obviously is GTR as is the engine harness and injectors/resistor pack and I only want to use one AFM probably Q45 . I'm not sure which set of bits to use and onlly want do it once . Also could someone please tell me if the sub harness that the engine harness plugs into for power supply is same or different between R32GTST and R32 GTR . Its the one that runs from the nearside strut tower and along the bottom of the rad support panel and up to where the boost control valve and I think ignition module is ?

Sorry to be vague but have not been close to an R32 (any) for a while . Would be good if an R33 GTS or GTR PFC saved some dough .

sydneykid has done this in his r32, connected up the airtemp sensor to an r32 powerfc. although i am notsure if its an r32 ap engineering or an rb26 version.

do ap eng have AIRT under sensor sw ?

the sensor would need to be present for it to work

Yes the R33 PFC was all lined up ready to go should I have been out of luck.

Others have had the r33 pfc running their r32 and by looking at the pin outs I am 100% certian the R33 pfc is the only way to go if you feel comfortable with a couple of little modifications.

If you decide to go the RB26 pfc in order to utilize the air inlet temp sensor I don't believe its as simply as splitting a single afm's voltage output and feed the two in to the pfc; 2v worth of air through a single afm is less air than 2v worth of air through 2 afm's. I would think a rework of the airflow curve would be in order to get it to run nice, basically it won't just run but tuning if you have access to a datalogit won't be a problem.

I had considered the rb26 pfc route but there are couple of differences with regards to fuel pump volt feed and obviously the afm, I didn't want to push my luck. :thumbsup:

Paul.. The R32 PFC's don't have AIT under the sensor screen, its blanked out like yours.

the PFC's internal method working out engine load is two average the two together and perform the calc against a fixed constant and look it up off the ramp. so if you have two afms are 3v or one at 3v its the same

Before i bought my AP PFc i was lookign at buying an R33 GTST Pfc Pro as i wanted some of the additional features...and teh research i did looed as though the R33 Pfc thing would work. But i never tried it because as i was about to buy one i butchered my engine and didnt want to take any more risks.

So 2 years later, im ready to try to wire an air temp sensor into my AP Pfc...but heave heard a few ppl have cooked them trying. Can i ask if thats what you did to scare your PFc? :thumbsup:

If the R33 GTST PFc Pro is a go for a replacement, it still has a few features i would like

the only way i could see the airtemp wire in method working is if you have AIRT under sensor SW and its display a voltage. If the sensor is not present then i dont see how (logic would prevail) it work by connecting it to the right wire on the loom. sydneykid metioned he did it but i suspect he used an rb26 ecu and it would have AIRT under sensor SW

the powerfc is the same for series 1 and series 2 (always has been)

but it does appear to be an older version powerFC

its likely the rb20 ap eng is from some other wierd variant

if someone with RB25DET 2.20, 2.3, 4.35 could open up their FC and take a picture that would confirm where the Ap eng rb20 version is coming from

although it should be noted that you can still buy new ap eng rb20 powerfcs, so i wonder what a recently purchased one comes from, like one in the last 2 years as the 78F3 cpu used (well in the R33 GTST) is no longer available so they had to switch cpu types.

So that is 100% all you did? Simply swap the inj. outputs?

I've attached an excel file that depicts the two pinouts, flick between the two tabs to see the highlighted differences. There are a few, one which is of concern is the rb25 lacks the rb20's throttle valve switch (pin 54) and in place of the rb20's throttle valve power (pin 57) it has the exhaust temp sensor signal.

On the RB25's ecu pin 17 Injection pulse TI monitor, I wonder if this is the R33's Rich and retard mechanism, it see's x inj. duty cycle then does its mental power dips from there on wards. It would be interestering if the rb25 pfc has this internally connected, if not then I would suggest it does exactly what I stated.

I'll throw the GTR pin out in there now.

its been posted up here a few times that all you need to do to make an rb25det one work on an rb20det is swap the 2 injector grounds.

ive got the pinouts here and have looked at all 3 , rb20,25,26 and its the easiest to do. from memory the 25standard ecu had a pin for a boost control however i dont see why you would need it anyone running aftermarket ecu

what about the ignition firing? shouldnt you change that also?

the boost pin or pin #25 is used for solenoid power for the boost kit, powerfcs with the 3 pin boost kit plug reuse this wire for switched power to the solenoid (powerfc turns it on/off to control duty).

boost kits with 5 pin plugs runs their own ground and power for the solenoid

    • The sodium acetate, mixed with citric acid, doesn't actually buffer each other. Interestingly though, if you used Sodium Acetate, and acetic acid, THAT becomes a buffer solution. Additionally, a weak acid that can attack a metal, is still a weak acid that can attack a metal. If you don't neutralise it, and wash it off, it's going to be able to keep attacking. It works the same way when battery acid dries, get that stuff somewhere, and then it gets wet, and off it goes again breaking things down. There's a reason why people prefer a weak acid, and it's because they want TIME to be able to be on their side. IE, DIY guys are happy to leave some mild steel in vinegar for 24 hours to get mill scale off. However, if you want to do it chemically in industry, you grab the muriatic acid. If you want to do it quicker at home, go for the acetic acid if you don't want muriatic around. At the end of the day, look at the above thumbnail, as it proves what I said in the earlier post, you can clean that fuel tank up all you want with the solution, but the rust that has now been removed was once the metal of the fuel tank. So how thin in spots is your fuel tank getting? If the magazine on the left, is the actual same magazine as on the right, you'll notice it even introduces more holes... Well, rust removal in general actually does that. The fuel tank isn't very thick. So, I'll state again, look to replace the tank, replace the fuel hanger, and pump, work out how the rust and shit is making it past the fuel filter, and getting into the injectors. That is the real problem. If the fuel filter were doing its job, the injectors wouldn't be blocked.
    • Despite having minimal clothing because of the hot weather right now, I did have rubber gloves and safety glasses on just in-case for most of the time. Yes, I was scrubbing with my gloves on before, but brushing with a brush removes the remaining rust. To neutralize, I was thinking distilled water and baking soda, or do you think that would be overkill?
    • You can probably scrub the rust with a toothbrush or something. After you get the rust off flush well with water to neutralize and you will probably want to also use a fuel tank sealer to keep it from rusting again.
    • The sodium citrate solution is designed to buffer the citric acid to keep it from attacking metal quite so much, the guy that came up with that recipe did a ton of testing on how much metal loss occurs over time and it's nothing crazy unless you forget about it for months:   
    • Ohhh I see lol To be honest the main reason why I wanted to start modding is because of a business trip to Japan and Indonesia. I saw many cool and modded cars all throughout in these countries, especially Japan. I myself am of Chinese+Japanese nationality and when living in china (never lived in Japan js my dad side lol) I remember staring at these cars pass by with their loud tacky exhausts and insane wide body kits. And when I went back to Japan, I got even more invested even asking people about their cars and why they modded. Most gave similar answers to what you said but funny enough one guy just said that he saw the need for speed movie being filmed once in Tokyo I think near Shibuya Crossing and got inspired to tune and mod. After that I just started to fantasize on owning a car like that. Also tbh I prefer the R32 over the R34 it's just the R34 is more iconic lol (also apparently better aftermarket support than the R32) and my only goal really is just to make the car mine and make it fun to drive. As much as I love my Cayenne it's pretty bland to drive. Sure the interior is nice and pretty, gives you attention yada yada but I've wanted to experience what it is like to have a car that is truly yours. I suppose thats the goal so far. Haha if you find where I'm from, then sure. Ill help you out on your next "financial decision"
