Stormy. You get what you pay for.

I paid over 30 for my car imported from japan myself. But this was years ago when they were very new. Do I feel ripped off? no way. all the skylines I see all around the place are all banged up. in shit condition.

I would not buy an r33 for 11-13k. My friend just bought an immaculate condition r32 for 14k. now that's something I wouild buy.

If I was to buy an r33 today, i'd be looking to spend at least 20. but hey, that's just me. I like cars that look like they're brand spanking new inside, outside, engine bay, undercarriage. Not a single door dent. No swirlies in the paint.

Let me give you an example. I have another friend. bought an auto r33 gtst for 11k. He thought that he was really smart. This is how the story played out:

The paint was looking pretty tired. so he got a respray - 3k. total is now 14k.

The engine blew after 3 months. 5k rebuild - he did all the work himself. now totals 19k.

manual conversion 1k (parts were purchased really cheap) now totals 20k.

now, at the end of the day, he still has a pos 93 car. The chassis and all the components have done almost 200000ks. The suspensions are all worn. The bushes are all worn. The diff open wheels. steering rack has play.

Fixing all this stuff would probably push the price over 25k, and it'll still be a 93 model.

You could pick up a nice sII for around 20k. I know which one i'd take, and i'm sure there are others who would agree with me

Dead stock R33 GTST ~1994 model in auto should be around $13K/14k

Dead stock R33 GTST ~1994 model in 5spd should be around $14k/15k

Thats what I think but the problem is these cars often have an air filter / rims/ exhaust + more... So people asking a few more $$$ ontop is normal.

+ you gotta remember most of the guys/girls selling these cars would have paid around $25k for them around 5 years ago.. And now that so many Skylines are on our roads and price has came down big time these guys/girls are a little bitter about selling the car for $13/$14k

Hit the nail on the head :)

I bought mine almost 4 years ago, back when there was only a handful in Perth :nyaanyaa: And the only people that owned them were true enthusiasts!

Now it seems every 18yo can get a 15k loan, grab a '93 skyline, drive without insurance, and write them off

Sidenote: My insurance premium has gone UP recently, despite being an extra year older (still under 25) and the car dropping 7k of insured value.

Yep!.........more sour and bitter than a lemon and beer :D

the car is worth as much as someone is willing to pay...simple.

hit the nail on the head. When i sold my car, which had between 15 and 20k in mods, i could only get $20k for it. Right now with the price of fuel, insurance etc i reckon its a buyers market and not a sellers market.

the car is worth as much as someone is willing to pay...simple.

bit unfair for those who have spent mortgages on modifying :D like the wine red one i see in this thread. if i was only willing to pay 15k and saw that for sale i wouldnt call him (out of respect), cos thats atleast worth 30k or whatever the owner is willing to let it go for.

on the other hand, the market value of a r33 gts-t(series 1) dealer trade is $8000,even if you try convincing them u got titanium conrods. rip off as usual but the only way you can sell your car in a day. anyway theres another thread talking about GTR33s selling for 27,000 so i guess the gts owners are phucked!!! just write off the car and collect insurance or strip and sell for parts. will get u more than 14k. just takes too long

    • My fob has never worked, I once attempted to follow the procedure to re-key it, (I have other fobs for the car alarm thing in there). I actually have three of them. Do aftermarket alarms take over the pairing mechanism for central locking? Or do they piggyback off it? I suppose it depends on the system, right? I have four sets of keys/keyfobs. One definitely works, one I think works, one definitely doesn't work, and I have the OEM one that has never worked :p. Is this fixable/workable/whatever? I mean I know it's beyond "just clean it" but how *do* they get synced up?
    • It's actually a really weird comparison... the MX5 is on another level and I kinda question this comparison at all. It'd be closer to compare it to a GTI/Golf/Hatch anything that kicks around. NC MX5 with a turbo has the right to go up with and beat the FD RX7 or 180SX or any other JDM hero car. That's the comparison that would really ruffle feathers.
    • @MBS206 you need more shed in your life... What sort of car is your mates race car?  Hopefully he returns the favour when you're ready to get cracking on yours! None of my mates are into cars so I don't have to worry about that as a distraction thankfully.  I have enough other distractions so I don't need that one too!  Between working 6 days a week (5 1/2 really so 55 hours or so per week), both kids have basketball almost every week night (including Friday night in Melbourne - 2 hours away), my daughter plays netball as well, my sons footy has started now and I coach his under 14's side as well as I'm on the Footy club committee this year, I ride motorbikes every spare Sunday I can find, plus trying to be some sort of a husband.  Life is a busy little exercise at the moment!  I wish there were 8 or 9 days in a week sometimes!
    • Ha ha, that is very true!  I'm too scared to leave it in the position though, it tingles my balls seeing it like that!
    • Which one did you buy? I have always wanted a decent inspection camera but have been unable to tell whether something is cheap junk or cheap junk chunk sold at just a bigger markup
