Hi guys i’m new to the whole skyline scene but i’m wondering if you can help me out on a few questions.

I’m looking at getting a GTS25t R33 93/94 model skyline just wonder how many of yous own this car and what faults you have encountered and what faults they are know for???

What else can you tell me about this car???

I’m looking at spending around the $18000 mark will this get me a decent car??

How many Kilometres should be on the car of these years???

Were is a good site to get information on this car including specs, stock pics of the car and just a general run down of all the cars features???

I hope this isn’t too much to ask but I would be grateful for any responses.

Thanks heaps

Mo$$y

I own a 95 amd so far so good (touch wood)

18, 000 ....you might get an ok one..... It's hard to tell. I'd allow a little more just to be on the safe side. Check site's like

www.carpoint.com.au

and maybe

www.ebay.com.au

to get a rough idea of price.....

When i was researching Skyline's i just did search'son "yahoo" and "google" and read what i could find on them.

They state that the skyline's are a very tough car, and detonation is the real killer of the engine's... Buying a second hand car is alway's a risk.... Kilometer's (can) mean little.....due to winding back/new dash/etc....

A dealer would probably be a better option as you get a warrenty, but money can be saved by buying off other people.....

But!! they are definatly worth it......

happy hunting

check for accidents ... and maybe little bits and peices missing here and there ... eg. i went to this dealer ... i asked about this particular skyline had a look ... looked pretty clean ... then i noticed that it didn't have a holder for the stick of metal that keeps the bonnet up ... so i would assume that that car has been in an accident ... theres been lots of threads on advice ... do a search ... i'm sure u will find way better advice than mine as i've read them!!! good luck!!!!

if u do it thru your parents get them to ask what happends if u drive it, some insurace companys wont cover you, different ruels for grey imports.

ive got 3rd party ($300per year)

so i got a excelent alarm ect.

but im going to get comp because its too much of a risk if the other party dosent have insurance and its their fault.

i also see your from the gold coast. good to see another local.

The car's are expensive due to the govt stamp duty and double tax you pay apon bringing it in to the country. then there is the compliance of the car, and rego....

So a skyline worth say 6,000 AU$ which is around 450-470,000 yen will cost around 3 to 3.5 grand in shipping, wharf, and Tax ... THEN you pay GST on top of that.... say another 300- 500. Complaince can cost around 2,200 to over 3 G's plus Tyre's add a minimum of 550... THEN Rego....

Total..: over 16 maybe a bit more.....

Then it might need some touch up's (paint etc... maybe inside...new stereo...etc) there's more money there....and THEn the dealer has to make money on it....

So buy the time that's all done....Car Expensive.... in the end, it's the govt tax that is the major killer..... it's there to try to dis hearten you in buying a NON Australian made car.....

Feel free to add if you like guy's....

I hope that help's

Cheers

Hey yer ill get my parents to find out what its worth to do it like that! They did that with the car i’m driving now but because this is an import it might be different.

When you guys were first looking at buying your cars did many people try to steer you away from buying an import?? Even no i’m going to buy one people are trying to get off them!

Do you guys think there are big risk buying imports??

If something does go wrong how hard is it to get parts??

Thanks

The price of a car is also affected by supply and demand. The build, quailty and performance of the car has increased the demand for them, thus the price goes up.

The R33 GTS-t is a great car, I wouldn't be turned off it just becuase its an import, if you find a good spare parts place/tunning shop they should be able to get you most parts over the counter, so parts aren't a problem.

I'd be wary thou of insuring cars under parents names thou.

    • careful when running the car after a boil over. Ive heard you can lose enough coolant that it won't show the right temps because of too much air in the system (or something like that). Make sure the levels are good before trying again.  Maybe a mobile mechanic can come have a look with their scan tool ?
    • OK, just for some extra clarity - there is more than one option at Frenchy's. 1. You can buy the whole kit - with or without the actual compressor. The whole kit includes mounts, hoses, condensor, etc. That's either ~$2200 or ~$2800. No surgery required with this option. 2. You can buy just the bracket (~$600), or the bracket with the compressor (~$1200). Either of this or the above option "without the compressor" is if you already have an Echo comp or you are able to source one locally. Whatever the case, in this option, you will need surgery done on your hoses to adapt to the new compressor. When I said "the Frenchy's kit", I meant the whole kit in option 1. It is obviously somewhat more $$ than a $1500 OEM compressor. But if I had to spend $1500 on an OEM compressor, I would certainly consider spending double that to renew and significantly update everything forward of the firewall. Another option is to rebuild your original compressor. My R34 comp is currently dead and I will be most likely doing that to it if the spare one in the shed is also leaky.
    • I’m thinking that’s the route I’ll  go, thanks for the input!
    • Hey all, my 2004 Nissan Skyline 350GT overheated the other day with coolant boiling and leaking out of the coolant reservoir when I was parking. So today, I started it up again just to see if it was a thermostat/head gasket issue. After about 20 mins of running, temps were normal again, no coolant was leaking out and the upper reservoir hose was warm but my engine suddenly cut off. I checked the oil dipstick and cap when it was running and there was no white foamy residue and the exhaust did not have white smoke. I tried starting up the car again but it would only crank, similar to when I had a camshaft sensor issue just that now there’s no check engine light on the dash. Any ideas? Unfortunately I don’t have an OBD2 that can read the Nissan's programme.
    • Bump on this to not make another post, had a ‘head drain’ leak on me and have the engine out as we speak. Planning on just putting a new freeze plug back in , plug the tapped holes and just be done with that headache.    Now I still want to relieve pressure to allow oil to pass down the blocks returns easier. I’ve seen catch cans with multiple vents help folks with this issue on this forum.  I’m wanting to make my own. I have some pictures here of my setup if anyone can help how I should plumb and design the catch can I would deeply appreciate it !   rb25 Oil upgrades: 1.0mm restrictor n1 pump/billet gears extended crank collar  extended sump with trap doors/w welded fitting
