i would personally write a letter of appeal (im doing one right now for red light camera offence... i know its pretty useless but shit i'll give it a go anyways) and if that fails, just pay the fine... like Richard said, its a waste of a day and chances are without a lawyer present, you will not win.

So you took a risk and pulled out in a tight gap in traffic (you had to floor it in order to avoid a collision) then u couldn't stop for the red light. well done.

Dangerous driving there IMO. You shouldn't have pulled out in the first place.

Now pay the fine and be on your way.

ps: Are you sure the cop was 100m away in traffic?

A few points:

Dont bother writing unless you have had a spotless record for 10 years.

If you think she was rude, then you have the right to complain but it wont get you out of the ticket. It is a completely different matter.

It is an offence to go through either a red or an amber light.

If the car was a HWP car you are stuffed. It is on video.

Like Rukus said, you took a calculated risk and it didnt pay off. Suck it up and put it down as a learning experience. Life isnt about looking for loopholes. You just got caught...plain and simple/

Write a letter first explaining it all. Then when you get a reply you either pay or decide to take it to court. You never go to court without legal representation. That's the way the system works. Remember the judge ,etc were all lawyers once . One of the best, if not the best traffic lawyer around Sydney is Marc Stenberg in Hornsby. If the letter doesn't get you off talk to him.
