Where To Get Gutter Scuffed Rims Repaired?

Hi Guys,

I have a nice set of Enkei rims, 3 of them have mild to moderate gutter scuff, otherwise in perfect condition.

Does anyone know of any where in Sydney who would do a good job of machining them off?

Also would this affect the balance or strength of the wheel at all? I have been told this is not a problem as long as you don't machine to much off?

Any advice appreciated.

Do you have any personal experience with them?

It's always hard to know where to go, especially when you get multiple recommendations.

Essentially I want to go to the best and get a bloody good job done.

After calling up a few places about my rims, it seems that they don't grind off wheel material at all. Rather, some places putty it and others weld it then paint it.

Therefore, it shouldn't be any weaker. I'm actually contemplating whether to repair one of mine or not. I dunno, maybe I might just change wheels altogther.

This the first I've heard of this, I spoke to a couple of places who advised they would machine them as long as they don't need to take to much off (Mine arn't really that bad).

Hard to know what to do, I'd like to keep them as their really nice rims.

depends how bad etc..

if they can smooth it out, they will, if not they may weld ontop and smooth over

how long is a piece of string?... it always depends on the amount of work they have to do.... simple gutter rash shouldn't cost more than around 80 bucks a wheel and they'll look like new... you can also get them just sanded back, it's cheaper but yr better off getting the clear coating as well.

I had my rims fixed by him.. he can fix any sort of damages.. like small gutter rush to buckle or cracks.. he can do either weld, mechine or polish and balance the rim to perfection!

I knew him since I've got my first car and put the rush on my very first mag wheels!! and now over 10 years I still go back there when I need rims fixed! (even now I live near Newcastle)

only problem is.. he very busy and only works by himself, sometime it could take over 2-3 weeks before he can start working on ur rims. so, better call him before drop them off !

      No not yet.  Hopefully this weekend if I can pluck up the confidence!  I had to sit in the car at one point yesterday to unbolt the rear struts.  As mentioned in an earlier post when I was putting it together there is still a bit of rotation possible so when I sat in the car, it rotated a little bit.  I near shit myself thinking the whole thing was coming down!  I do 99% of my own shit in the shed but I think I might call on some assistance the first time I spin it!

      Strong first post. On a Skyline-centric forum. Have you considered actually going out into the world, visiting the actual dealership, and asking the parts guy over the counter? Or at least just call them up on the phone?

      Trying to find the plastic under cover for an 04' Forester X. The main under cover that covers most of the front of the vehicle under the engine. This has turned out to be a crazy experience. Normally I can find parts for vehicles, if I have the correct info, no problem. But not this! The Forester is a non-turbo btw. In a Forester parts catalog, for model years 03'-06', it shows part# 56410SA070 as being the correct part. So I go to the local Subaru dealership's website to order it. I type in the part#, hit search and there it is, the under cover. "DOES THIS PART FIT YOUR VEHICLE?" I type in my VIN# and sure enough, "This Part Does Not Fit Your Vehicle. See Similar Parts For Your Vehicle." I click on that and part# 56410SA000 comes up. Looks absolutely nothing like the previous part. Not even close. So I go to a different Subaru dealer website and put in that 2nd part# (56410SA000) and "This Part Has Been Replaced By" 56410SA070, which is the first part I looked up. I thought OK, makes sense. They replaced the strange looking part, with the one I looked up first, so I add it to the cart. "Does This Part Fit Your Vehicle?" I type in my VIN#, and sure enough, "This Part Does Not Fit Your Vehicle." I've basically been doing this with various parts suppliers and dealerships, for the past 4 hours! Does anyone know what the hell is going on?? Thanks in advance!
