Hi, I am new to the worlds of skyline as I use to own a s13 turbo, and I have a r34 gtt coming in about 3 months time, just wondering what difference is the r34 rb25det neo and the r33 version of the rb25det? what is this neo thing? also what turbo does the r34 have? and is it ball bearing? sorry bout the noob quest, but since im moving to a skyline now, i wanna know as much about them biggrin.gif also any other cool features or anything about r34s that u guys can tell me?

It is ball bearing, and ceramic exhaust, nylon intake. The housing is a bit bigger apparently.

The R34 put out 206kw

The R33 put out 187kw

Slightly bigger turbo, slightly bigger intercooler... i'm sure there's a few more differences, but those are the main ones that I know of.

yeah r34 have a slightly bigger turbo, but depending on what series r33 motor it is, will determine if it has a nylon compressor wheel (series 2 r33 has it). from what i gather the r33 motor is a little bit better. something to do with the vct or something.

you will find the rb25 motor a lot different to (i'm assuming you had an sr20 motor) the s13. if your motor was relativevly stock (e.g. stock turbo, just with more boost, exhaust, fmic), you will find the rb25 pulls a lot more down low. i had a 180sx with an sr20det in it, and it was rather sluggish down low compared to my girlfriends car (sss pulsar- natro sr20 with 112hp atw). they pull once they come on boost at about 4000rpm. the rb25 having a ballbearing turbo starts to boost a lot earlier and pulls a lot harder down low and are a lot smoother through the rev range.

Hey mate,

interesting thread but this has been covered before I think...

I didnt think the R34 had a ball bearing turbo, just thought it was a little larger... Can anyone confirm this?

Anyhow, heres what im quite sure of....

-They have slightly larger intercoolers

-Variable cam timing on both the inlet and exhaust cams (as opposed to only the inlet which the r33 rb25det has)

- Solid type lifters (same setup as Rb26)

- Different shaped inlet manifold

R34 is 206kw R33 is 187kw.

R34 Rb25DET has

*larger intercooler,

*solid lifters like GTR,

*different cam profiles,

*constantly adjustable variable valve timing on inlet (not just advance or retard 10deg like R33 RB25, R34 can vary it up to 40 odd degress and anywhere in between)

*traction control

*larger turbine housing on turbo (otherwise same as series 2 R33 turbo)

*larger top feed injectors (instead of side feed)

can't think of what else is different at the moment?
