well I'm shattered :D :D

who the hell am I going to go for now???

I thought he might be racing against Ambrose but they're in different series (which i only discovered existed tonight, thought there was just 1). I know nothing about NASCAR :)

Juan Pablo Montoya is giving up on Formula One to try his hand at NASCAR.

The 1999 CART champion and 2000 Indianapolis 500 winner was confirmed today as the latest stock car driver in Chip Ganassi's operation. Montoya won his CART title and Indy with Ganassi.

Montoya's contract with McLaren was not going to be renewed for 2007.

Montoya is expected to run a handful Busch Series races later this season before running a combined Busch-Nextel Cup schedule next season.

Meh he hasn't really done that much in F1, maybe Webber can get a seat in a more reliable car!!!

As for Ambrose racing with Montoya........... that wont happen tooooo soon as Ambrose has only recently finnished a race in his truck on the lead lap!!! that and Montoya is in a different league.

yeah I discovered that when I looked around..

Ambrose is in the NASCAR-TRUCK series and Montoya will be in the ones I posted above.

I know he hasn't done much, but I keep hoping!! It's not like he's complete shite though.. I hoped he'd stick with it a bit longer and maybe his time would come, but i guess you gotta have a seat somewhere first!

I'm just sad cos I've followed him for so long.. from champ cars to F1 and now he's going to a series i can't even watch (and probably don't want to)... and I don't really have anyone else I wanna get behind in F1.

oh well :)

Monty's hey day's come and gone. He was at his prime in his first year in F1. After that he slid and against Kimi at Mclaren, I reckon his confidence took a beating.

Sad to see him go but as long as the seat is covered by someone who can give Alonso a good run for his money, all is good.

Mclaren have more points, 3rd on constructors behind Renult and Ferrari on 65pts...............Williams in 8th on 10pts, YOU DO THE MATH

I do know where your coming from and Mclaren did have a few scetchy years a couple of years back, but they are stll better than where he is now!

Webber has only finnished 4 of 10 races, Majiority were because of car failure.

yeah i've been watching both busch series and nextel cup and can tell you ambrose is in neither. he races some dodgy farkin truck in a lower level category. bit dissapointing really as it was always implied he'd be racings cars in a nascar series....

Gees, you lot are a harsh bunch of critics.

Ambrose races in the lower of the three NASCAR series, ie the trucks (utes). Last weekend he put the thing on pole & the week before he scored his first podium. There is from all account ALOT to learn & he is doing so remarkably well. He will get there, sure as shit. But look at it from the seppo's point of view - they are unlikely to have heard of Australia, let alone care about someone driving in the local touring car series. He did well to get the deal he has got.

As for the Mercedes engines - well they have been good ever since Ilmor starting making them & put the first one in the Lleyton House (march) F1 car in about 1992. Having said that, they have never been quite the same since they lost their co founder (Paul Morgan) was tragically killed in an aeroplane crash (His Hawker Sea Fury overturned on landing). Mercedes eventually bought them out, although Ilmor still lives building NASCAR engines amongst other things.

Unfortunately this years McLaren has been awful.

Richard where do you watch nascar? on foxtel?

and ctjet, i won't be handing out any spankings for whoring in this thread  if it's about F1, it's all good!!

So JPM has finished up already.. as in, he won't be racing in the next GP?? :)

  • 7 months later...

Just to set the record straight....... Ambrose races in the Craftsman Truck Series and the Busch Series. Number 59 in the Busch series. He was racing in the Mexico City Race that Montoya won over the weekend. Ambrose was running 5th at one stage when i saw him. He ended up 8th.

Results from Mexico City

I have been a nascar fan for years. My wife is an American Citizen so i guess it came from there.

    • Everything I found online said never use it because it'll dramatically reduce belt lifespan.  No, but I have seen excessive v-belt tension cause the audible bearing noise from excessive radial load in things like alternators. So don't overdo it. Ideally you set it to manufacturer spec using a proper belt tension guage. I tried the "clicker" type gauges but those cheap things are trash. They read way too low even when you're careful.
    • This is kind of where I've ended up for the most part. It's easier for me, easier for shops that don't have to deal with my weird criteria/picky standards, etc.
    • Will do. Suprised if it's not the starter motor considering it's 30 years old. Will get a volt meter though. Battery is close to new.   Cheers for your help, always appreciated.
    • This almost never happens these days. No. Clean your battery terminals and make sure they are tight. Use sandpaper on a dowel if you have to, to get oxidation off the inside of the terminals, particularly on the -ve. Check the earth cable from battery post to chassis ground and engine ground. Make sure the contact surfaces are clean - including the threads on the bolts that anchor them - because that's where a lot of the contact occurs. Wire wheel on a drill is a good thing for this. Make sure the crimps on those cables are all sound. Assuming none of that causes an improvement: Check the battery voltage after it has been resting for a while. If it's at the lower end of the range, put it on charge for a while, then see if it will crank better.
    • I just checked my belt, it wasn't super loose but I could bend it past 90 degrees a small amount so I tightened it up and for the first time ever my car didn't crank first time, had to crank it again lol. Don't know if that was because I tightened the belt or if it's my starter motor going out (been having slow starts for some time). Coulda also been when I was recording I didn't crank the key properly and it didn't save the recording lol.   Is that a thing if you overtighten a belt it struggles to start?
