Hi all, i want to fit a set of these 'alloy subframe bushes' to my R33. my question is - how effective will these be if the factory bushes are really worn? will they still lock the subframe from any movement?

its pretty harsh on the road as is. i feel every little uneven-ness in the road with my coilovers. i dont really want to go to all the effort of completely replacing the factory bushes, and ive heard mixed opinions on pineapples, with some people reporting they dont make a lot of difference? ive heard the same about alloy bushes, apparently they are effective but cause increased NVH, although ive read a few people say they arent that bad?? any other opinions?

think about it. U are now connecting the rear suspension via metal to the chassis. If u think the aftermarket coilovers u have now are harsh, add more NVH on top.

Only solution is either to replace the std silicone filled mounts, fit Noltec subframe mounts, or fit poly pinapples. Noltec ones add a little bit on NVH due to the stiffer urethane used, but it is a way better solution than alloy spacer bushes.

Speak to Shaun, as hes fitted the Noltec ones to Freebaggins r33.

Not the same car but I fitted Urethane ones to my HR31 rear subframe and fark me it made the car way harsher. If you had some fair decent rates in your coilovers and metal bushes in the subframe I wouldnt want to be in the car for more than 30mins of daily driving.

I run metal ones in my r32 with all the rear suspension bushes in poly and 5kg/mm rear springs.

It's fine, there is still some rubber between the top collar and the floor

and the more solid feel of the back end was worth any minor increase in NVH in my opinion. If i had a mechanical diff it may be a different story though...

hmm, many different opinions on this topic.. same goes for all the topics i have searched through. it seems most people who have fitted alloy mounts claim that they are not that bad. im not sure what to do. it seems my stock bushes are very worn. im stuck in a situation at the moment where i cant easily get my car to a workshop for the duration it takes for a full replacement. im leaning more towards the alloy ones for the fact that there is no more movement in the frame, and i can install them myself.

    • But it's much better to use a freedom unit that has four different possible meanings...
    • I would try messing with friction modifier to see if it smooths it out.  Just keep adding more until it stops chattering or grabbing quite so much. If you haven't changed the gear oil in a long time you may as well start there too in case that has anything to do with it. You might want to also verify the initial torque is set to the lowest setting too. Requires popping out one of the CV axles first but that's not too bad. Once you're sure the preload is set to the lowest you can try adding an ounce at a time of friction modifier until it feels right to you.
    • It is possibly 55 degrees for the Nismo version. I had a look through the manual and the stocker has a breakaway torque of 2.5 to 3.5kgm. Supposedly the Nismo LSD goes down to 5kgm when worn in but it is pretty grabby even with very little throttle. Worse when cold. So I guess you have three things. 1. Shims. 2 Friction plates 3. Cams Would think shims would be the easiest but Ive no clue how many tenths of a mm shim thickness change equals how many kgm torque. Also not sure if the Nismo friction plates are similar/different to stock or if they are the most of the source of the diff being angry. Think I can write off the Nismo rebuild kit for the standard diff as not being what I want.  
    • Yeah, it was a bit of confusion with me, I rang and asked if they had a boot for a soft top, and then the paint shop when they rang and were asked if it had a hard top on it, which it does, just not a PRHT....LOL Meh, whilst frustrating for all concerned it isn't a war stopper and should be a thing of the past in a week or two In other N/A related news, car is booked in at the end of the month for the cams, springs, retainers, harmonic balancer and retune  I might even pull the lazy arse card and get them to do a full service on it whilst it is there
