oh and if your looking for a honest good guy in the west to do the job try rob at HTR automotive....they dont come any nicer than this guy....just tell him what you want done and he will quote your fairly

That is true.

That is why i told him to confirm what he wants done. I still have my original bearing, that where checked and were fine. It is always good to discuss such issues in detail, not just "how much for 100k service", Vic:"$400", "thanks, bye". Which is pretty much how it went down, as Vic was too busy to take the call. Best to get a break-down of parts cost and labour cost.

PS: My bearing were still very smooth and rotated nicely. Maybe they had been replaced in Japan, maybe my km where genuine at the time (69k), i don't know :

in my opinion though, it shouldnt be up to me to discuss what needs to be done. if i ask for a quote on a 100k service on an r33, an experienced mechanic who is familiar with the car should be telling me what should need to be done. If they work with the cars day in and day out, they should know what is involved and what could be involved and give an informed quote on that.

As usual Ash, jumping to pointless conclusions before reading the posts properly.

All those things you mentioned do NOT have to be done at 100K, why not spread the cost and so some b4, some at 100 and others after? I have stated numerous times that details have to be discussed and sorted b4 the job. Not all customers can lay $#### on the table at one hit, so he will not replace all the parts at once. But if a customer specifies what they want, and this gets done way b4 Vic receives the car, then a proper quote will be given.

All I stated was that the parts ARE genuine, and you still have to add your bullshit that they are dodgy, just because we are not talking about your "buddy" w/shops.

How many w/shops have you blown your horn for?, only to end up moving to another w/shop because the previous didn't live up to the reputation. I know of two that have quietly been removed from your vocabulary, over the last few years.

In words from the great man himself

"thus has risen from the bellows of the sphere, the red man himself.Let the shiny one from above strike down with great fear for the evil one...may jesus christ himself be thou saviour for the joy of mankind.....because thou seeith great shitous fightous evolving"

Ladies, don't turn this thread into another sh|t fight, the fact's are if a customer rings ANY workshop and asks for a quote on a 100,000KM service for a Nissan Skyline they SHOULD be quoted correctly, no if's not but's.

None of this "only change these parts" crap, it's a MAJOR service and should be performed accordingly. Workshops are not stupid they know what needs do be done so why deviate from the standard items???

If a client rings and is short money or only wants the Belt and Bearings done then they would ask for that.

If NISMO themselves quoted this for a true 100,000k service I'd say they need to smarten up too.

My 2c

just on a side note.....if you dont change your idler bearings when you do a cam belt your crazy....even if you think they look ok... for what its worth they should be changed

i also had my belt tensioner bearings changed, is this also a common replacement item too? i think mine were both stuffed...

Each to their own.

My car has only been worked on by EAS, it has been converted from a 100% stock 33gts-t, to a highly modified one, and is still in great shape. It has held together strongly even with all the shit i give at it.

My experience is that he is very knowledgable, thorough, reasonabily priced, honest and extremely helpful. When others have stated "that combo wont work; you don't need to do that; etc", the car has proven otherwise.

He has a few tough machine coming out this year, one is a green 33. Cosmetically the car will not please many, but that is the owner's preferance, but take note of it's mechanical build and power .

What does that have to do with an inaccurate quote for a 100k service though???

You car indeed has proven many things Al

I know there is a sarcastic remark in there somewhere

Well the reputation of EAS has been questioned and in my opinion unfairly answered by those that do not use the services of EAS and others that have personal grudges. Unfortunately this thread goes beyond the 100k service question.

I have said my 2c worth (and a little more ;)), and wish everybody receives the same high level of service and workmanship, from what ever w/shop they choose to attend, that i have received at EAS over the last 5yrs.

ok, the service has been and gone, thank you to the people who pm'd, and to everyone here for the feedback. i decided to go with re customs and with no regrets so far. The service was very proffesional and there were no hidden extras that others sometimes like to throw in. I'm pretty sure i'll be goin back there and i do recommend them. The only problem is that they are on the other side of the city from me. anyways, thanks again to everyone
