alright... thx for the input...

BUT here is something for the real pro's :( :

now i have found a tuner near me who has an emulator and he told me that if i get him a chip/eprom that fits into my PFC slot which is free (see pict), he can tune my car with his emulator and software that he can really do wonders with (ie. 1.8l audi TT with 512 HP) ...

now there are 2 questions:

1) is the PFC PRO compatible with any chip/eprom from a RB25DET engine?

2) will this eprom be able to boot by itself and replace the processor functions?

i am aware that "chipping" the PFC will disengage the normal functions of the H/C and tuning the processor of the PFC with the H/C, since the eprom will replace the processor function...

thanks for the internal rb25detpro pics, its the same as the ap engineering model. its a 78f4 cpu which isnt reflashable and wont support booting from other eprom chips or other code locations.

what is it you are trying to achieve?

whats wrong with finding a real tuner (or doing it yourself?)

surely there is a local dyno near you

Hi Nico, the “real pros” tune the PFC using Datalogit or Power Excel. The best $500 you can spend, lap top tuning plus data logging.

But plenty of people get perfect results using the Commander, so just get on with it.

;) cheers :P

because all tuners that i have spoken to, are either too scared/dont feel comfortable of working with the H/C, or dont want to use any other software than the one they know... there is really nobody in the whole of Austria who has tuned a PFC before...

its really beginning to piss me off slowly... the season is 3/4 finished already, and i am still running at half the potential that the engine can give... its really annoying/depressing... and i dont have the money to pay someone to come from ie. england and tune this f**kin* thing for me...

i thought of trying myself maaany times... i have a good wideband tool (wbo2) with brand new wideband and have already taken all signals from the ECU that are needed for tuning... but if you havent done something before, you have certain concerns... especially if i blow this engine, it will a) cost me a fortune and b) if the block goes boom, i will have to fuss with finding parts for another year... and i want to drive my car...

but if my PFC PRO has this 78f4 CPU, then why does it have this socket for an EPROM???

thx!

ps: if you want better picts of the ECU, i can make some with my digital camera in better quality...

i really have no expertice here, so forgive me if i'm not making sense.

i too have a Power FC & Hand Controller that i want to put in this week end, so i am reading through this & the FAQ with much interest.

Could this econmical softwear & interface cable (~AUD$135.00) be of use to monitor the fuel & Ign maps via the consult port while your playing around with the HC?? at least then you have the table constantly displayed on a lap top beside you.

here's the home page.

heres a screen dump of the map trace

i'm in the same boat as turbo, as i have the only FC in the country :ban:

the consult port doesnt work when you change the powerfc.

most ecu's dont support the OBD functionality as they dont see it a priority, given most have hand controllers or laptop software anyway

There is nothing strange in a PFC. I have tuned Motecs, Autronics, Bosch, Electromotive, Microtec, Link, Haltec and few other I would like to forget and the PFC is no different. It has a 2 dimensional load over rpm injection map and a 2 dimensional load over rpm ignition map. That is NO different to any other ECU.

Honestly, if you keep the A/F ratios below 12 to 1 and the knock below 20 you can't blow anything up.

Get on with it, you can do it yourself. Put all those other so called professional tuners to shame.

:( cheers :P

Hey Guys,

Not trying to steal your thread or anything, but this question goes out to anyone with some knowledge and experience, i.e Sydney Kid

What's a better ECU for my rb20?? a A.P Engineering power fc, or a wolf 3d??

Can anyone give me some pros and cons??

I know the wolf is about $500 cheaper but is that $500 wasted on a wolf 3d?? any help would be great guys.

Thanks

Magik32

thanks Paul, that clears that up then.

so will the display gauges read from the FC ECU via the consult port correctly? much easier to read the nice big blue gagues on the lap top than the small writing on the HC display?

if not i guess i'll give it to a mate.

great thread BTW :P

the consult port doesnt work, as i said above. this means if you plug in a consult cable you get no connectvity and the software wont speak "consult" the ecu. you can use the powerfc hand controller as a guage display unit or you can get the fc edit software and achieve the same goal
