Hi guys. I recently bought a R33 Skyline GTR and I love that it was so quiet inside and clean.

But yesterday I had a nail pulled out of my tyre at the tyre place and ever since I have this firetrucking horrible noise when I take my foot off the power at about 60 K's

So yesterday the very same day I hear it I took the wheel off * Front right hand * and looked high and low for this noise. I could see no sign of scrubbing or of anything being out of wack. So I spent 4 hour's looking over everything to do with steering, wheel and brakes and couldn’t find a dam thing out of place.

So I took it out again and low and behold the same dam noise came back. The noise is lick sticking something in the spokes of a bike. So again I took the wheel off and again I find no sign of any kind or rubbing or damage to anything on the right front wheel. This is really starting to make me wonder what could be wrong. Has anyone encountered anything like this before? Or is there anything you can sagest I have a look at?

Apparently you moved me to the right section. Thanks

The problem with this is that I have already had the wheel off. I couldn’t see a dam thing wrong with it. The little whipper snapper that changed the tyre may not have anything to do with the sound. But I will speak with them tomorrow and see what the go is. More info on the noise is also that it only happens when I am coasting or negative boost. If I tap the power it firetrucks off. The noise does not always happen either.

I take it to the guy I get to fix my cars and he said he can’t find anything. Put it up on a hoist and him and myself sat under that dam thing for hour's and still couldn’t come up with any resin why it would make the noise.

Update.

After spending another two days under the car pocking around I decided there was no way the sound could be coming from tyre. So I took it down and though I will take if for another run and listen to the sound again. I drove the car for an hour without hearing the noise. Witch scares me a little. Becouse the noise isnt there anymore and I didnt find what it was. If anyone has any idears please let me know.

  • 8 months later...

The noise ended up being a front planitery gear set tooth droping.

Witch 3 weeks later ended up in little fine peaces of mettle floating around my front wheel drive. Witch in turn ended up with a new front wheel drive

needing to be installed cost 5500 witch was not to bad i guess :domokun:

    • Sounds good Hmm suppose the main thing is, how much do you care about this car? The filler doesn't make for a very good water barrier lol. If there was a tiny little bit of rust forming now, that in 3 to 5 years time becomes obvious under the paint (starts to bubble up), would it bother you?
    • I already have the ability to datalog the voltage... what I can't do is correlate it to what the gauge is showing when I'm looking at the data at a later date. Or something like this. Except getting the oil to 125C+ involves me going 200+kmh at the track so you can imagine this is a little tricky unless I do something like note what the voltage is when I am at the top of 5th gear so I have a point to reference on. Drove car today. O2 still reading richer because hopefully not a leak instead of massive restriction I've introduced. Car really doesn't sound like a LS. It's quite strange. Pulled a bit of fuel out up top. This does potentially explain why my spark plugs looked like the car was running pretty over-rich. If I was tuning it to a ~12.7 which in reality was far richer than that in the past. It will be handy to have the dyno WB to compare my WB to to compare notes that's for sure. At this point I'm happy to just sit in the passenger seat and tune the thing given I've got about 7 million hours on the platform lol.
    • Yeah I understand you have to pay for an updated map or subscription service or something. But I can't even find a current map for Australia. My map is dated 2017, but didn't this car version still sell in Australia until 2021?   Also, just as an aside, the navigation system warns you of traffic incidences ahead.....why would they include that on a map they knew is not receiving live information. I am forever going to be warned of an incident that probably existed for 30 minutes 8 years ago.
