guys, the problem is in the education,

look i am 18 and i drive an old celica around, occasionly i do drive a turbo'd car. i already no the concequenses of speeding and what it can do, i have seen to many people just in my community being killed and hurt by driving to fast and thinking they are invincible. and i agree it was to easy for me to get my licence

SO EVERYONE PLEASE JUST SLOW DOWN AND THINK ABOUT WHAT THE CONSEQUENCES ARE

cheers

Any decent skyline in the wet with a lead foot driver is gonna loose traction, u only need to lose traction for that split second and ur life can turn upside down , as far as im concerned while on p plates there must be restirctions on cars, and hopefully this will cut down the number of heros

I had heaps of friends who had only 4-5 hours driving experience when they got their P's. I had over 200 hours, and i still think i needed more.

if u think u needed more y didnt u stop urself from getting ur P's and DO more hours instead of calling people idiots

like with a lot of social problems what we need is more education... but education is expensive and the government would rather legislate around problems... eg. more fines, P plate restrictions, anti hoon laws etc...

so you can't have fun responsibly anymore because someone else has already hurt themselves or worse, so now there is a law against it... to protect us all... from ourselves...

I think its a parents job to make sure their child can drive and doesn't have a dangerous car not the governments

agh it doesn't matter anyway, did anyone watch the 4 corners on peak oil last night? by the time I have kids they won't be able to afford to drive... and neither will anyone else!

If George Bush and his dad left the oil fields in the gulf alone, we wouldn't be paying this much :P

So how many hours did you have exactly?

Are you a perfect driver tested and expirienced in all conditions?

You recent posts of late have done nothing to make me think your any better than anyone else.

Unless ofcourse you get to the attitude button and turn it off before entering a vehicle and drive like a sedated turtle

>_<

what is hard to believe about that?

I took a corner somewhat briskly due to an amber light, only light on the throttle and the back stepped out, it was dry aswel btw

You answered your own question in a somewhat round-a-bout way.

If you didnt take the amber, which BTW is illegal to do, you wouldnt have gotten out of shape at all :)

So its not a case on unbelieveable, its totally believeable if your acting illegally on the roads.

I know this post will set some noses out of joint, but im all for that :D

no mate, im no perfect driver at all, never even said i was remotely a perfect driver...

It has more to do with developing economies like China and India needing more oil... A few years ago China used to be a net exporter of oil but now they have to import it as well to keep up with demand... same as England in the eighties when they thought the North sea reserves would last forever...

most of the easy to get oil has already been used which now leaves the deeper trickier oil, which is slower to get out of the ground and more expensive... and yes the major oil producing countries all seem to have unstable governments (Iraq, Iran, Nigeria etc etc) which is also helping drive the price up...

The big question is how much oil do the Saudis have left... they have a nationalised oil company that controls all the fields and they have been reporting the same growing production of oil for the last 50 years which contradicts every other major oil field/producer in the world... so they are keeping something secret...

bottomline enjoy your cars people because the current rate of petrol price increase will continue and worsen after 2010 or so... don't blame the oil companies either, blame the government for not preparing us and our economy

buuuut back on topic...:)

my my arnt we mr politically correct?

FTR I wasnt running an amber, I was committed to making the turn and it went amber as I entered the intersection so I kept a little more speed than usual, came out of the corner with light throttle right on boost :) sure if I ment to do it I would have been hooning, but as I admit while trying to be brisk about it my judgement was in error and the cars limit exceeded unexpectedly

I am new to this car and it surprises me how it can be grip central to tail happy depending on how it is driven. so therefore I can cirtainly understand a less expirienced driver can get themselfs in all sorts of trouble through being a tool or just plain lack of expierience.

It's not the high powered car, it's the bulletproof dickhead behind the wheel trying to impress everyone. Unfortunately the more power, and the less experience algorithm means the easier for said dickhead to demolish himself and innocent lives.

My answer? Driving ed in schools over 2 years, and if you don't get your license at school then you should pay for equivalent and extensive training yourself to the tune of $2-3K.

As for the speed limit question. That is the most ill informed noob question ever asked. The speed limit doesn't cover all weather and traffic conditions and unfortunately with the bare minimum experience expected of our young drivers they will continue to kill themselves.

More people die falling from ladders than on the roads. Don't see that in the news everytime someone has a fall.

totally agree. ive had my P's for a year and i drive a "high powered car". thing is i've been driving since i was 11. but its way to easy to get a licence. like ive mentioned in another thead.... 15 mins of crusing around at speed limits and one reverse park later, i had a card that says i can drive. to me... thats bullshit, they teach you nothing except how to obey road rules. learning where the hazards are in the car isnt going to teach you how to regain control of the car if you lose control in the wet etc. lack of driver training is the problem, not the car or its power.

Yeah cause they wont be able to kill themselves in a 3.8litre VN commo...

Cars dont matter... power wont matter... 335 people die on the road a year... of that 335 probably 70 are P platers and of that probably 15 of them are in "Hi Power" cars.

seriously... who cares... regardless cops are going to target these cars, no matter whos driving them and restricting them to "low power" cars isnt going to drop the amount of accidents dramatically.

couldnt agree more ni.

i got a $200 fine going through an amber light at 10pm with a cop car more then 200metres behind me. He claimed he can see in the dark that my car was over the line and that i made no attempt to stop.

he said that basically if i attempted to brake (and he could see the brake lights) and then i went through he could tell i attempted to stop and wouldnt have got a fine.

moral: tap ur brakes before u come on full boost to go through an amber to save 200bux

so he was driving a 34... Maybe if he had been in a nice slow suzuki swift or a lancer they would all have been fine.. But seeing as speed wasnt said to be a factor, perhaps the skyline would have been safer than a ford laser and in fact been the reason the two guys lived not the girl died..

Oh id also like to see a re-enforcement of the "Look listen walk" rules again. Sure whiping off 5km's could turn death into a broken leg but.. looking left then right could have prevented it altogether..

My 2 sense

huh?

my understanding is that they were all in the car.

quick... someone start developing a straight gas setup for RB engines >_<

Your missing the point...all of you...in relation to this thread

Education, training youth has nothing to do with it...

Stupidity and trying to be a hero has....

Just because you own a fast car does not mean you can drive one...

The 20 year old would have killed someone eventually even in another car....if skylines wern't around

he's choice of weopen would have maybe been a XR6 Turbo

To many times we believe...when we are young..we can't die

He has learned the hard way ...that your driving can cause fatalities to others....dick head

I feel sorry for the girls family

Training ....my arse alot of good it would have done him

as a matter of fact i did hit the anchors, but at the time believed that scooting around the corner was a smoother action than sending my siblings thru the windscreen

    • There is a way, but it's not with the same cars. You need to find the same vintage of car, that we had. Realistically, that was an affordable car with aftermarket parts around. So what people need to find is a car that had a decent base in its day, and can be modified. They're looking for a car year make of 2010 to 2015 really... Aus could have done it if Holden didn't fold as V8 commodores were cheap, and if Ford didn't get expensive thanks to COVID, then you could cheaply play with FG Barras. Realistically, those are just a bit heavier, four door skylines. I'm sure the US and UK have similar cars they could find.
    • Haha I do that.. thats when it chirps..The bit point for me is almost non-existent. Otherwise I stall it. But yes, in terms of performance, the clutch is solid af.
    • Greg speaks wisdom. These dirty old Datsuns are only value when they are cheap. When they are not cheap, there is no value. Sounds contradictory, but it's true. We are now 20 years past the hey day of modifying cheap 90s JDM cars for small amounts of money. This is a different world. If you are rich and can afford not to care about what is effectively wasting money on an old Datto shitter, then I have no reason to argue against it. But if you are wanting to experience what we all experienced back in 2005 (and I bought my car last century!) then there is no way to do it.
    • Short answer: No. Medium answer: No, because you still need to conjure the things out of thin air to bolt them to a NA to make it a NA+T. Long Answer: No - The things you need to conjure - meaning a turbo, intercooling, manifolds, exhaust, intake/manifold/piping, clutch, injectors, fuel pump, AFM (?), ECU + Wiring (woo, N/A loom fun) have to come from somewhere. You could have many scavenged these things from an OEM car that someone had upgraded from and use some of these. This will be cost prohibitive now, especially so in the USA. You'd probably pay the same for newer, upgraded components that are better than old OEM stuff from 25-30 years ago. None of these big ticket items are re-usable for the N/A car. Why not buy new and upgrade while you're there? The only real consideration is turbo and fuel sizing and determining whether you want to stay within the bounds of the OEM engine or get into rebuild territory. These limits ARE lower with a N/A motor and especially N/A gearbox at the starting point. And if you're gonna upgrade those then you may as well consider having them built to begin with. Because everyone here knows you're never far from that next engine rebuild once you start making the power you want... The cars you see on the internet and SAU etc have been built over decades. If you're really clued in... you would sell your US car to somebody for what you paid for it. You would then scour AU JDM pages or SAU and buy a car like Dose's on this forum with your powerful American Dollar. This will save you so much money in the long term. Importing it could be tricky. Or it might not because USA. I have long said the only reason 90's Japanese stuff took off was because a) Japanese people had Japanese cars so that is what they used b) Australians could import these cars to Australia with very minimal changes and use them on the road here c) Neither country had well-priced access to US or EU Sports Cars. I don't believe the JDM scene would have taken off in Australia at all if we had EU priced EU BMW M offerings, or more especially the AUS V8 Scene would never have existed if we had the multitude of US cars like Camaros, Mustangs, Corvettes at the prices you folks do. After all - Do the math. I would say put a V8 in your R34 and that's the smart way forward. It is. I did it. I know this from my own experience. But at that point there's no reason to simply not buy a C5 or C6? It would be simpler and easier and cheaper and bette-
    • Reading all this... hurts lol. I have an ENR34 5MT and I paid an inflated USA price for the car alone, had to do tons of preventative maintenance past that, and so I'm over $30K USD into the car already and haven't even touched power.  I wanted to +t it. Not even trying to make GTR numbers, I'd be happy with 250hp.  Can I get away with paying much less to make that happen?
