Howdy...

I am looking to buy a turbo upgrade for my R33 GTS-t.

I currently have -

FMIC

electronic Boost control

fuel control

upgraded computer

I was just wondering what turbo would best upgrade to acheive around 250+ rwkw? And if this is possible by turbo and boost?

I do not want to spend an erractic amount but somewhere around the $1500 mark. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Also what should i look for with a turbo?

cheers

At that $$$ you will have to look at a plain bearing turbo.

Nothing really wrong with this, just be sure that they have 360 degree thrust bearings etc. If turbine / compressor are properly sized, and oil routinely changed and not overheated you should get equitable durabilty as a BB turbo.

As for driveability and response form the plain bearing turbo i wouldnt be too concerned, im of the opinion the power and effeciancy gains of BB turbos come from turbine/ compressor design more then the ball bearing centres. They are mainly for durability.

Plain bearings can get knocked around when a large compressor is being used with a relatively small turbine due to the axial load of the shaft wanting to spin forward instead of spin centrally in the housing.

$1500 will buy you a hiflow of the stocker with plain bearings.

250rwkw a goal? Why not just phototshop a std turbo dyno run and make it 350rwkw?

Seriously what do you want the whole car to do? (a certain 1/4 time or time around your favorite circuit for example). This information can help determine the type of size that would best suit and whether the wheel should be back cut etc..

i am aiming at the same rwkw and rev i want to do consistant low 12's and be able to go sideways in 3rd gear at 100km/h :P

U will need more than $1500 to achieve your goal, i am looking at getting a custom garrett made in melbourne for around $2000, but as other said u need to change injectors, fuel pump, clutch, comp, and afm. I have budgeted about 5g for my goal.

Too easy. Fit a set of 205 Falken Zeix ZE502's on the back (preferably 2nd hand ones) & you'll be able to do the above with your current power level :D

Hi blx, I am a bit confused, please help me out here....

You want 250 rwkw, but you only have $1500 total?

Or you have $1500 to spend on a turbo, that is capable of 250 rwkw when you have upgraded the other parts necessary?

And your budget for those parts is?

The problem is that 250 rwkw is around 420 bhp and that is a bit over the limit of the standard injectors (370 cc's). The standard fuel pump won't even come close. I don't see cat back exhaust or dump or engine pipe on the your list of mods and they will need doing (very well). The standard airfilter will also bit a bit of problem and the inlet to the turbo will pose a restriction issue. If you want a useable power curve (not just a maximum horsepower number) an adjustable exhaust camshaft pulley is going to be required and maybe even a set of mild (around 256 degree camshafts). The clutch won't handle that sort of power and, depending on where you are located, the radiator may need upgrading and/or an oil cooler fitted.

The last time we costed a totally standard R33 GTST to a 250 rwkw R33 GTST it added up to close to $13K with minimum labour.

If you do have a little more than $1500 (not too much more) to spend on the turbo alone I would go for a hi flow of the standard turbo (GCG do ours), they are good for 250 rwkw consistently with good power curves.

Hope that helps.
