All...

It's been a pretty bad week in the SAU world. Thefts, accidents, 'Hoon' laws, parking tickets, fuel prices and forum viruses... not fun at all.

To bring some smiles and kick-start some memories, this thread is based on a discussion here at work yesterday where one of the guys bought his 4-month old son the new Lego Death Star (ages 16+) :P

We all agreed that this was an awesome toy - even if he can't play with it for another 15 years - and the 80's memories started coming back.

So... what was the best-ever toy you had?

Lego? Transformers? Speak & Spell? - what was it?

Do you still have it - or would you buy it again should it pop up on eBay?

For me...

It was the Space Lego 'Galaxy Explorer'. Originally released in 1979, Alistair and I got it as a joint Christmas present in 1981. It was massive and had the back doors that opened to hold a little buggy inside.

BEST. LEGO. EVER.

There's a couple on eBay at the moment selling for about $120 Aus... I don't want it that much, but it's still super cool!

I once had the entire lion voltron set, was a few feet high, disassembled into the 5 lions, and had all the characters as well. All that was missing was a robeast to battle against.

Hmmm we were poor so one of my only "toys" was a hand me down .22 single shot rifle that I used to reduce the local population of black crows in the small country town I grew up in the 50's.

Dad taught me how to use it responsibly at age ten and I never had any dramas with it. Then again I learnt to drive that age as well.. >_<

How times have changed........

hmmmm i was kind of spoilt...

i had about 50 transformers (the originals not the shit thats out now thats made of 100% plastic)...

i had all the constructorcons, different primes and megatrons, that huge white jet, all the decepticon jets (star scream and so on), bumble bee, jazz, the insecticons, the 5 rescue ones that turned into one robot, the base that turned into a giant robot, all the dinobots, both tape decks.

also had about 30 gi joes or more and about 12 of their vehicles and bases.

didnt have many of the MASK toys tho... only 3

i dont have any of them anymore... most of them my bloody mother gave away...

I had a great set of Star Wars toys & and endless supply of lego growing up, including a kick arse lego train set.

My entire Masters of the Universe set, complete with Castle Greyskull & Death Mountain (?) were sold by my parents for about $25. Gee... only worth a few hundred now... smart move! I was devestated. Completely ruined my 19th Birthday. >_< j/k

Other than that, someone might be able to help me out on this. I can't remember what it was called, but it was like a cross between a bicycle & a playground spinning... thing...

It was a round frame with a few wheels with handles on either side to move/steer. Great fun. Couldn't really travel more than about 25m without being absolutely knackered, but ideal for spinning in circles.

I also had this - the Fisher Price ATV.

There are photos of me getting it for my first birthday - and I remember having it until I was 7!

Bad. Ass.

It had a horn, the shifter made a 'rrrrrRRRRR' noise and the little guys in the front could come out to play with. The back opened up to put stuff inside. Top shelf!

We never had figures (He-Man etc) or Transformers. Just not educational enough >_<

Nothing battery operated either - it's funny as Dad used to work with Union Carbide, you'd think he'd have the tip on batteries.
