Hey all, I know there a few experienced photographers here so my question is about a tripod.

I need one that will hold my canon 20D and my heaviest lens is the EF 70-200 2.8L IS (1.5kg).

So the tripod will need to hold that gear at a minimum.

I want a bogen/manfrotto setup. Budget is around $500 tops for this setup.

Not sure of the head as yet. Do you guys like the ball heads and pistol grips?

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Cheers.

Manfrottos are great, but can be quite heavy if they're on the cheaper side.

A good quality ball-head is a must - forget about 3-way pan heads, and you shouldn't really need a pistol grip with a still camera.

I've ordered a lot from here - http://www.madsens.com.au/ and in the US through Adorama and B&H
